CORNER ON STEEPLECHASES Pimlico Jumping Races at Mercy of Capt Ral Parrs Stable Wins Every Day This Week Pride of India Makes Good Impression PIMLICO Md May 8 Capt Ral Parr seems to have cornered the market in so far as steeple ¬ chase races at Pimlico are concerned Today was the fourth straight victory for his stable in races through the field Monday his Royal Arch won Le Marsouin on Tuesday Bughouse Wednesday ami Warlock today Tlie latters success Was achieved in the last few strides of a sensational finish in which the Parr representative coming from the rear overtook and passed the leaders right at the end endAbout About as good a field of threeyearolds as has gone to the post at the meeting started in the opening race among them several Preakness eli ¬ gible including Henry A Porters Pride of India a colt that was led out of tlie ring at Saratoga last August after a bid of 20000 had been made for him Pride of India was making his first start and he ran a firstclass race Lion dOr won but he didnt have much to spare at the finish for Over There was at his neck anil Pride of India was close up The others appeared to be somewhat out ¬ classed This race was really a trial for Pride of India for the Preakness and if lie goes along he may be a factor in tlie big race raceThere There were more Preakness and Oaks candidates to start in the second race Indeed it may be considered that these two sprint races were public trials for the more important race next week weekA A H Morris Ticklish won the second race wouitrather decisivelythough King Plaudit might have landed home in front with tin even break It was King Plaudits first start of the year and he was away none too well while Ticklish was off running The latter raced to the front and had Ophelia for company to the stretch where Rinr sent King Plaudit along The son of Plaudit looked as if he might come on but he hum just when it was necessary for him to run and Ticklish beat him home It looked as if King Plaudit wtis the better horse and when tlie two meet again it is not unlikely that King Plaudit will turn the tables on the Morris colt coltSTEEPLECHASE STEEPLECHASE INNOVATION INNOVATIONThe The Hampden Steeplechase which will be run next Wednesday Preakness day means one more to the list of innovations of the Maryland Jockey Club It has been framed restricting entries to tliu members of the club and its purpose is to bring new interest to steeplechasing The old guard of crosscountry sport are showing their interest by offering to lease for the race horses in their stables to run of course in the colors of thoso accepting subscriptions Tlie closing of tlie race will be on Friday and present indications are that at least a dozen will compete Among the new colors that will be shown will be the famous Kenner silks which fifty years ago were carried by some of the best horses in the country They will be used by Duncan Brent a grandson of the man who half a century ago played so important a part in American turf affairs affairsD D Stcrett Gittings who twentyfive years ago was a prominent gentleman rider will bring out his silks for a bid to capture the prize I Severn gentlemen have become members of the Maryland Jockey Club in order to show in this event Among them are E M Weld Commander J K L Ross W A Prime T T Gwathmey E C Griffith A J Joyce Archibald Barklie and Samuel D Rid ¬ dle Mrs Payne Whitney also joined the club and will have a starter The Maryland Jockey Club will present a trophy to the owner or lessee in whose colors the winner runs runsIn In the absence of H G Bedwell and Carroll Shilling the horses in Commander T K L Ross stable are being looked after and saddled by Frank Stevens StevensOn On account of the activity of the halter men tin Maryland Jockey Club found it necessary to mist the scale of prices in their selling and claiming races mid from now on the conditions of many races will be framed for horses entered from 5001 down to 3500 This will enable owners of high class platers to run without fear of losing their horses at a price far below their true value valueCommander Commander J K L Ross and a party of friends left in his private car last night for Kentucky to be on hand for tlie running of the Derby at Churchill Downs on Saturday Jockey J Loftus left at the same time and will have the mount on one of the Ross horses in the Derby Both of the Ross eligibles Billy Kelly and Sir Barton were given their final trial for tlie big race yes ¬ terday morning
