MAY ABANDON CHURCHILL DOWNS Famous Louisville Course No longer Large Enough to Accommodate Increasing Patronage LOUISVILLE Ky May 20 The growing popu Inrity of racing as is being strikingly illustrated at Churchill Downs where the crowds in daily attendance surpass all previous records has brought to the attention of general manager Whin and his associates in the Kentucky Jockey Club the fact that Churchill Downs is no longer large enough to accom ¬ modate the growing patronage This phase is al ¬ ready giving manager Winn concern and while no ronerete plans have been formulated it is more than likely that before long the problem will be gone into fully fullyIt It is not altogether improbable that the Churchill Downs truck will be discarded and patrons of Louis ¬ ville racing will in future witness their favorite pastime over the Douglas Park course courseThe The renjodeling of Churchill Downs to bring it up to a needed standard would entail an expenditure of over 100000 This amount spent on the Douglas 1ark track where acreage is plentiful would give tin Kentucky Jockey Club a racing plant second to none countryIts in the country Its chief lacking feature at present is a clubhouse that could be built without difficulty for there is plenty of space at the Douglas Park plant The grandstand and other needed appointments could also readily be added While Churchill Downs is roomy and parklike it however is growing cramped for room and the building trend is in that direction which makes the Churchill Downs more valuable as a subdivision proposition
