threeyearold Under Fire gave another proof of his right to rank high among the horses of his age when he won the main race of the afternoon a dash of a mile and an eighth in which lie easily accounted for Ginger Beaverkill and Preecutter Beaverkill Iieinjr an oddson favorite Under Fire seemed to he limping when he went to the post Imt lie did not run like a lame horse in the irast Instead he came through the homestretch with a fine display of speed and won by two lengths from Ginger with Beaverkill third It was a performance of real merit meritCold Cold bleak weather with an occasional light shower was the order this afternoon and it caused a slight decrease from the normal good attendance The hard rain during the night converted the track Into mud and was responsible for a reduction in the various dashes by withdrawals withdrawalsBackers Backers of favorites were routed for the choices went down In most instances those particularly regarded as standing out in their respective fields proving the worst disappointments Port Light Lady Roberts Beaverkill and Sams Boy were Hit standing offenders The Ogden Stable scored its initial Kentucky success when War Cod cantered home in advance of the others and it incidentally furnished jockey Robinson with hi first winning mount f fr r hisnew contract employeiv 7 The opening race was marked by two outstanding incidents One was that Dr Carmen made a show of the others and simply ran away from them to win pulling up by eight lengths The other was that the favorite Port Light in going made to order for hiin toddled along in the far back divi ¬ sion and made no showing American Eagle finishing second and Cane Run third thirdThe The sloppy going seemed to suitWar Ood admi ¬ rably and in a tightfinish he took ttfe second raw by a half length from Clermont with Marie Miller a poor third The winner was a confidently hacked favorite and withgood reason reasonMiss Miss Minks lias had a busy career but seems to thrive under it She has frequently shown that she is a good mud runner Her ability iu this respect stood her in good stead today and enabled her to defeat Diamond Girl by a half length in the third race with Lady Roberts a fairly good third Tin latter was the favorite and might have won on a fast track but Miss Minks had a quite sanguine following noblySams and requited them nobly Sams Boy was considered best in the fifth race and backed into decided favoritism with Spring Vale figuring as second choice It proved bad picking Owner 0 D Ray introduced a new starter in the neat filly Miss Maxim which raced past tin two favored ones in the homestretch and won with ¬ out trouble in fast time for the going Spring Vale made the running to the stretcli and finished a good second Sams Boy was not ridden to the best advantage but was third and probably will do better presently presentlyROUSING ROUSING FINISH IN SIXTH RACE RACEThe The sixth race was productive of a rousing finish between the threeyearolds Silvery Light and Soii nings Park It was an open letting affair in which the two Horned together with Harvest King and the veteran Hodge all came in for hearty sup ¬ port But so superior were the two threeyearolds to their competitors that they had the race between them exclusively Sennings Park made the running and made it fast but Silvery Light came at him in the stretch and in an inspiring struggle finally bested him by a head Harvest King was third but ten lengths back backW W B Jennings trainer for A 1C Macombers extensive stable advised the local officials that Royce Rools would be a
