Ladder of Light Wins the Kings Plate By FRANCIS NELSON TORONTO Ont May 24 The clearcut victory of George W Beardmores Ladder of Light in the sixtieth running of tfie Kings Plate today was the popular outcome of an interesting race The winner is owned by the master of fox hounds of the Toronto Hunt which organization conducted todays sports with the Plate as the really attractive feature for the five thousand people who attended attendedLadder Ladder of Light did not win easily but came from behind at the top of the stretch and was driven to the limit to beat Mr Seagrams Doleful by half a length Another Sea ¬ gram colt Hong Kong was half a dozen lengths back in third place and the Sunnyside Stables candidate was never in contention except with the third Seagram colt Galway which had a prominent part in the early pacemaking The Waterloo horses led for a mile and Uncle Johns dash for the leadership at the half mile failed after a bold effort Lyke rode a patient race on the winner and was always in striking distance She followed the Seagram pair to the stretch and under hard riding got command in the last eighth Ladder of Light was second in last years race raceThe The cup and the certificate for the kings guineas were presented to Mr Bcardmore by the lieutenantgovernor amidst cheering by the great crowds gathered to show their hunger for real racing under the same conditions that prevail in all other countries countriesSteward Steward Frank J Bryan starter Milton and the riders who came on from New York and Kentucky returned tonight to their regular fields of action actionThe The remainder of the program was devoted to jumping competitions among green and qualified members
