AIRPLANES TO SCOUT FOR FISH FISHWASHINGTON WASHINGTON D C May 20 The bureau of fisheries has taken up with the navy department the matter of using naval air craft in locating schools of fish at sea and communicating the infer mation to the fishermen fishermenTlie Tlie Gloucester Mass board of trade some months ago addressed to the navy department a re quest that naval planes and airships bi utilized in assisting fishermen to find schooling fish especially in tlie southern mackerel fishery and asked the bureau of fisheries to use its good offices in laying tlie departmentThe project before tlie navy department The navy department expressed its willingness td do everything in its power to assist the fishermen and arranged for a conference at which representai tives of tlie New England fisheries the bureau of fisheries and the patrol division of naval aviation were present presentThe The outcome of the conference was a tentative arrangement by which a duly qualified observer should make flights over such parts of tlie Atlantic as seemed most promising and the location of any schools of fish noted should be telegraphed to desig ¬ nated organizations of fishing interests interestsThe The matter of direct communication between air ¬ planes and fishing vessels by means of the radio ¬ telephone was also taken up Experimental opera ¬ tions will bisjin at Cape May N J in the near future
