AN IDOL OF THE ENGLISH TURF WORLD Lord dAbernons Great Little Mare Diadem Her Pedigree and Her Fine Racing RacingAt At the recent Ascot meeting Diadem won two stake races one on each of the last two days of the meeting a rare feat She is today about the most popular horse racing in England She is a little thing but wonderfully fleet and up to any weight in reason something like Firenze was in this coun ¬ try in her racing days only Firenze was a better stayer than Diadem is her forte being extreme speed up to a mile She won the One Thousand Guineas of 1917 from Sunny Jane and Nonpariel but Sunny Jane turned the tables on her when it cann to traversing the longer distance of the Oaks How ¬ ever she ran second and only Sunny Jane beat her so she stayed well enough for a mile and a half on that occasion When a twoyearold she won the New Coventry Stakes Fulbourue Stakes Eton Two YearOld Stakes and Moulton Stakes her one fail ¬ ure coming when she ran third to Dansellon and First October meeting Since that age her tri ¬ umphs have iHHii numerous and her sameness speed and consistency have endeared her to the English racing public Her brother Diadumenos was also a notable good race horse Her partly American pedigree is
