YEARLINGS ATTRACTING ATTENTION Youngsters to Be Sold at Saratoga Sales Next Week a Superior Looking Band BY T K LNCH LNCHSARATOGA SARATOGA SPRINGS N Y August 2 The yearlings quartered in the sales paddock here are attracting quite a bit of attention and it is quite the proper thing to spend an hour or two before the sport begins looking over the big band of youngsters that have been shipped here from Ken ¬ tucky and Virginia to be disposed of next week Collectively they are pronounced a superior band by those who are supposed to know and judging from the values set on some of the platers running here these youngsters should sell for record prices pricesConsidering Considering the big purses offered at the Ken ¬ tucky and Maryland tracks and with racing an assured thing in Canada next year it is little wonder that thoroughbreds have increased in value so much recently Then again some of the winter tracks have already announced some valuable stakes to be run at their meetings and this too helps boost the value of the race horse horseJ J O Keene and Capt P M Walker are two breeders who have sent up their youngsters to be sold at Saratoga and strange to say these two gentlemen possess the only Ultimus colts in the Country The remainder of the progeny of this sire arc fillies filliesWalter Walter O Farmer is another breeder who is here to look after his interests He has a big band of youngsters a majority of which are by the English sire Assagai AssagaiThe The plater irregular in the stable of Pat Dunne died here a few days ago as a result of an opera ¬ tion Irregular was unsexed after his arrival here from Kentucky He was a fivcryearold by Hast ¬ ings and showed particularly good form when the gotng was heavy The remainder of the Dunne horses are in good condition conditionJoseph Joseph Rhinock prominent in racing and theatrical circles came up from New York to participate in his favorite pastime pastimeAFTER AFTER HORSES FOR CUBAN RACING RACINGE E J Crawford who a few seasons back de ¬ veloped the useful filly Golden Bantam is here looking after material for a stable to race in Cuba Mr Crawford has been out of the sport for a couple of years and has been devoting his attention to two moving picture theaters in Washington He will probably be a bidder on some of the yearlings of ¬ fered here but his aim is to secure some horses capable of holding their own in the stakes which will be offered by the CubaAmerican Jockey Club ClubHarry Harry White who was associated with Ed Mc Cullim in the financial department at the old Fair Grounds track in New Orleans for a number of years and later on with some of the halfmile tracks in Canada is here drinking the waters and is incidentally picking a winner occasionally occasionallyFrank Frank J Bryan who was recently appointed rac ¬ ing secretary of the Maryland State Fair which operates the meeting at Laurel predicts great meetings at the Maryland tracks next fall He said that the purses will range in value from 1000 to 2000 Mr Bryan is here as steward representing the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association F H Von Stade and Harry W Sage will act as stewards with Mr Bryan in the stee ¬ plechase races run here hereAn An examination of the injuries to Morris Lee who was kicked by a horse at the Saratoga track yesterday shows that the scalp only was lacerated and not a fracture of the skull He is still in the I hospital and the injury is not necessarily serious
