CONTROVERSY OVER PURSES SETTLED LEXIXGTOX, Ky.. September in. Chairman Johnson X. Camden of the Kentucky State Racing Commission has decided that the added money to the purses for the races at Latonia this coming fall shall average SI, ."00. which is the same as at the spring meetings, and that the added money to the purses at Churchill Downs shall average S1.000, as proposed by the Kentucky Jockey Club, which is 00 per race less than last spring. In announcing his decision, which was addressed to judge William II. Shelley, racing secretary of the Kentucky Jockey Club, whom he instructed to proceed with the preparation of the program book for the Latonia meeting, chairman Camden said: "In accordance with tiie resolution passed by the Kentucky State Racing Commission at its last meeting, held September IS, nuthorizinz its chairman to settle the controversy arising between the horsemen and the Kentucky Jockey Club over the purses for tiie fall meetings, .the chairman, after careful consideration pro and con. decides in the best interest of the sport and all concerned that the purses shall be raised from ,200 average to ,500 average at Iitonia. the purses at Churchill Downs remaining at ,000 average."
