AQUEDUCT MEETING BEGINS i i War Cloud Wins Bayview Handicap, Opening Day Attraction. L Fairy Wand Defeats Some Fast Sprinters Kr ewers Victory Proves Costly. i NEW YORK. X. Y., September 15. Races at Aqueduct opened today under favorable conditions, with a fast track and good attendance. The races were all well filled and furnished excellent contests. Favorites were fairly successful. The feature of the opening day was the Ray Aiew Handicap over a considerable distance of ground for fhree-year-olds and over. It brought out four starters. Lucullite. Star Master. Sennings Iark and AVar Machine being withdrawn. A. K. Maconibers War Cloud was returned the winner from the popular Naturalist, running the mile and a sixteenth in l:45if . Dunboyne set the early pace fast, but tired on the stretch turn, where AAar Cloud came alongside. From there the Polymelus colt had no difficulty in holding the lead, and at the end was three lengths in advance of Naturalist, which was hard ridden all through the stretch. Fator. who finished third on Aalor, came in for some criticism for the ride he put up on the Hildreth racer. A good band of sprinter: lined up in the first race, which was i:n extremely hard matter on which to form an opinion as to the ultimate winner. The good mare. Fairy AVand was the winner from Com Tassel -and Hollister. The secondary feature of the afternoon was the Rellerose Selling Stakes, for two-year-olds, and the victory of Krewer. which, -as easily, accomplished, proved costlyfO" his owner, as the Winner was advanced from S2.50O to ,000 by Emil Hers, but was retained by his connections. Krewer led all the way. with End Man in nearest pursuit, but never able to overtake" tiie leader. Gex was easily best in the second race and won accordingly. Grundy, heavily backed to win the fifth, a dash of a mile, failed dismally, Whimsy leading all the way and winning by three lengths, with Chasseur and Tenons Ron second and third. Flags is wind broken and will be operated on for the trouble. The Aqueduct track has been deeply harrowed, making the going slightly slower than it was in the spring.
