OPENING DAY AT PIMLICO Wonderful Meeting in Prospect at Marylands Picturesque Course. Richly Endowed Stakes and Valuable Overnight Purses Attract the Best in the Land. BALTIMORE, Mil.. October 31. The Maryland Jockey Club, the oldest racing organization in the State of Maryland, will tomorrow inaugurate its aniuinl fall meeting at the old but picturesque 1imlico course. Impovements in recent years have made 1imlico one of the best equipped and most modern of our race tracks. The liberal policy of the Maryland Jockey Club in sharing its prosperity with the horsemen has been rewarded by the participation in its racing of the most powerful and fashionable stables of the tvuntry. Only a few years back few of the real stars of the turf were Kept in training so late in the year, but now, with "winter almost upon us, wo see the real top-notchers of the year stabled at 1imllco, fit and ready to take part in the Maryland Jockey Clubs meeting, which opens tomorrow, November 1, and continues to November 13. 1imllco will have no opposition anywhere this fall. The, New York racing season for the year closed with the termination of the Empire City meeting at Yonkcrs, Saturday. October 2ii, and the Kentucky fall meetings will come to an end tomorrow at Churchill Downs. This leaves the field clear for Pimlico, and only a severe spell of in-i-lcinont weather will detract from what is certain to lie a wonderful climax to a year of wonderful racing on the American turf. An idea of the fine sjwrt in prospect for the patrons of the Maryland Jockey Club may be bad by a glance at the entries for the opening card, of which the Iimlico Serial Weight-for-Age Race No. 1 is the principal attraction. There will be three of the weight-for-ago races decided during the meeting, the first at three-quarters of a mile, the second at one mile and the third at one mile and an eighth. Each race has ,000 added, and the Maryland Jockey Club will give an additional ,000 to the owner of the horse winning any two of the three events. For tomorrows race 172 nominations were received, and such cracks as Lucullite, Hilly Kelly. Constancy, Ormonda, Flags, Fairy Wand and Aice-Chairman are carded to start. As a secondary feature the Arlington Handicap, at a mile and a sixteenth, is provided with Cudgel, Jorri lirighton. Tipplty Witehet, Boniface, Jack Stuart, Thistledon, Halvestra, Fairy Wand and Day-due among the likely starters. Racing through the field has always been a popular attraction at Iimlico, and the management lias arranged for one jumping race a day, in addition to the decision of the 0,000 Manly Memorial Stakes and the Elkridge Steeplechase of ,000 added. Tim Walden Stakes of ,000 added Is the big two-year-old race of the meeting, while the Howie Stakes of 0,000 added at one mile and a half ulid the newly-established Iimlico Cup of ,000 added at two miles and a quarter are the stellar attractions for horses of the older division over a long distance of ground. The prospects are exceedingly bright, and every indication points to the most successful meeting ever held at old Iimlico.
