LAUREL MEETING COMES TO AN END Hiding of Jockoy fator Seemingly Affected by Tall While Astride Water War on Thursday. LAUREL, Mil., October 31. The closing day of the Iaurel meeting brought out a large crowd. There was no particular feature offered by the club, the program in the main being made up of a series of maiden and selling races. The fall whkh jockey Fator had while astride "Wnter War yesterday evidently affected his riding today, if one is to judge by his riding of Pride of India, a 7 to 10 favorite, in the maiden race for three-year-olds and over, and also of War Mask in the fifth race. Fator pulled Pride of India up after they had gone a quarter and galloped in behind the others. Going to the first turn with War Mask lie eased the latter up and took his mount to the extreme outside and never made a move with him until in the final eighth. At the end War Mask rlosed up with a rush, and overhauling Rapid Day with every stride was only beaten a bead. .1. II. Rosseters good filly Wedding Cako, although sore going to the post, won the opener in runnway fashion as did Jay Hird in the steeplechase that followed. An outsider in Jos. P. Murphy accounted for the third, after Fator pulled up the favorite. Pride of India, while Allivan met no serious opposition in the fourth race. Trainer Sandy McNaughton was one of the arrivals from New York today. Ho will remain for the Pimlico meeting, at the conclusion of which he will return to Helmout Park to look after the- big baud of yearlings that Wilfrid Viau lias quartered at the lying Island track. During the Saratoga meeting Mr. Viau bought fifteen yearlings at a cost of something like 0,000. Mr. McNaughton is well satisfied with them and lipiws to develop some high-class racers from among their number. Jockey Kummer, who is under contract to Mr. Viau, will not ride at any of the winter tracks. The J. II. Rosscter string will at the conclusion of tiio Pimlico meeting be retired for the year. Several of the horses have gone amiss and they will be rested until next spring. G. O. Mizell is strengthening his stable preparatory for a winter campaign at Oriental Park. Mr. Mizell. who is a business man in Havana, takes keen interest in racing and is an enthusiastic supporter of the sport. He has added the plater Legacy to his stable by private purchase and also secured from Senor O. Yzquierado the sprinter Orlando of Havana. He also secured some yearlings from William Garth and the entire consignment will be shipped to Cuba next week. Henry Bondy is now looking after tlie Mizell horses.
