MARYLAND SEASON CLOSES SATURDAY Fine Field of Good Horses Named to Start in Thanks-giving Handicap at Bowie. HOWIE, Md.. November- 2ti. Only three more days remain before-tlie close of the Maryland raciiig season of 1919. The siiort will end at Bowie Saturday and the same wonderful prosperity enjoyed by the racing associations at Havre de. Grace." Laurel and Pimlico has continued right up to the end at Prince George Park. From, every angle the present Bowie meeting lias surpassed any ever held here before. The class of horses that has furnished the entertainment is far superior to those of former years, with the result that the patrons of the Southern Maryland Agricultural Association have witnessed some excellent racing. While no stake features were carded for the Bowie meeting, a number of overnight handicaps and purse races of good value were provided and brought out some exceptionally good fields. As an outstanding attraction of the meeting it was decided to offer the Thanksgiving Handicap, for all ages, at otic trillt? and a sixteenth, and as an inducement to bring together the best horses at the track, the association offered a purse of .."00. The race will be run tomorrow ami a grand field of twenty tried and true campaigners have been named to start. Leochares is the top weight with 14 pounds and. despite his poor race a few days ago. will have his usual large following of admirers. It would not be surprising, though, to see one of those two sterling fillies. Ophelia or Ormouda, which have leen racing in brilliant form throughout the fall season, rule favorite. Then again, there is Slippery Elm. a dangerous factor ii the best of company and right now at the top of his form. Old Hoscbii.-l. Tom McTaggart. Duchess Lace, Bolster, Kings Champion, and Kashmir are among others carded to start in this race, which should indeed furnish pleasing entertainment for the large holiday. crowd that is sure to fiud its way to Prince George Park tomorrow, weather permitting.
