OWNER COES YEAR OF BAD LUCK DISQUALIFICATION OF OVER THERE AFTER FINISHING FIRST IN THE LAWRENCE REALIZATION STAKES AN ESPECIALLY STRIKING INSTANCE There was no groat disparity in the stable earnings of W. R. Coe in 1018 and 1919, being SrS,22S in 1918 and 5,928 in 1919. but the stable was unlucky in several ways in the latter year, but for which it would have been much higher up in the winning list. Its crowning stroke of ill fortune came when its good Spearmint colt. Over There, was disqualified after linishing lirst by live lengths in the fastest running of the Lawrence Realizatjon Stakes. This one disaster transferred 1,010 from the stable account to that of II. 1. Whitney because the Whitney lilly, Vexatious, finished second. Then the stables best three-year-old, Sweep Oil, went, wrong early in the year and had to be retired after he had won two purses and run a good third .to Sir Knrlon and Eternal in the Preakness Stakes at the Pimlico spring meeting. Such drawbacks, and others considered, the stable did not do badly, and in the English-bred filly, Cleopatra, raced one of the best of her age and sex. Cinderella was another good two-year-old filly, but after racing brilliantly early in the year she lost her good form. Over There raced well and, belonging to a line that improves with years, may prove on excellent handicap horse in 1920. The Star Shoot two-year-old colt. Star Court, and David Harum raced well enough to hold out hope of their proving line three-year-olds. The Cicero lilly. Terentia, which raced so well as a two-year-old. was one of the stables failures and could not win, but Herotlias upheld her distinguished lineage worthily and raced as a daughter of The Tetrarch should.
