EXTERMINA TOR KILMER9 S MAINST A Y KENTUCKY DERBY WINNER OF 1918 AMONG THE BEST RACERS OF 1919 AND VICTOR IN THE SARATOGA AND PIMLICO CUPS W. S. Kilmer owes the bulk of his stable winnings of 1019 to his eminently reliable four-year-old gelding Exterminator, the prize bargain horse of the last decade. All of that he is, as well as a high-class race horse and a stayer of the first order. Bought in an emergency from J. C. Milam for the reported price of 5, COO, he dropped into the place previously reserved for Sun Briar as the Kilmer Kentucky Derby candidate of 1018, and "did it so effectively that he carried off that great prize of our spring racing himself. Then he kept on racing so welL that at the end of the year he filled third place in the list of money-earning horses with 6,147 to his credit, only Eternal and .Tohren excelling him. To his big total of 1018 he bus, added Gj402 this year, and if he is not emphatically a bargain horse there never was one. Moreover, being A gelding, sound and hearty, there is no telling how much more he may win before his time for retirement from racing arrives. Among the nine races he won this year were the Ben All and Camden Handicaps, last spring and the Saratoga and Pimlico Cups, later on in the year. His famous stablemnte. Sun Briur, did not do much this year, a triumph over Exterminator, Hollister, Corn Tassel, Fairy Wand and War Machine in the Champlain Handicap at Saratoga was his solitary success, but in this he carried 128 pounds and. in running its mile and an eighth in 1 :"!. made a new track record for tlie distance. Gifted with a natural endowment of enormous speed. Sun Briar was difficult to train into that condition requisite to its complete demonstration. He has been retired to the stud, where he should prove a success.
