CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF Swirl has been bought at private terms by J. McDonald. The arrival at Havana, of the Beverwyck Stable horses adds "one or two more good ones to the handicap, division at that course. A goodly number of Chicago sportsmen are planning to leave for Xew Orleans immediately after tlie. holiday season to spend some time in the Crescent City enjoying the racing at the Fair Grounds. A number of San Francisco followers of raeiug are planning to leave Frisco on a special train that will take them to San Diego, Cal., in time to witness the opening of their favorite sport at Tijuana, Mex. Marathon and Fitzwilliam are the two stallions stationed at Commander J. K. L. Ross breeding establishment at Vercheres, Quebec, while Cudgel and Wigstone will hold, court at his Maryland stud near Laurel. Track officials, newspaper men and tlie directors of the Jefferson Parish Fair and Racing Association were guests of the association at an elaborate luncheon served in. the clubhouse before the racing on Christmas Day. The annual meeting of tlie Saratoga Racing Association will be held January 8. On the same day, but earlier in the afternoon, the United Hunts Racing Association will meet to elect four directors to serve for the ensuing three years. W. B. Jennings, who completed bis contract as trainer for A. K. Macomber when he superintended the shipment of the Macomber horses to France last week, is now on his way to California, having retired permanently from" the turf. .
