Simpleton, an overwhelming favorite, winning in a canter from Bullet Proof and .My Hear. the -towards at once began an Investigation, which included the interrogation of jockey Heini- h and trainer ieorge Arvin. and just before the ilo-ing race the officials handed down the following : -•Trainer ieorge Arris has been indefinitely -impended. Jockey Heinischs license has been suspended pending further action by the stewards. No further entries from horses that have been under Arvins ears will be accepted until placed in the hands of a trainer affirmed by the -towards. 1ntil further notice the horse .1. K. Hertz has been dis- iualified from lacing." The stewards did not make public what their investigation developed, but it i- -aid that jockey Ileinisch. when i|ue-tioned by the officials for the renssa of hi- bad riding of the colt, i- alleged io bare -aid that trainer Arvin had instructed him to give the colt an easy race. Trainer Arvin disclaimed having given the rider any such orders. The consistent Slippery Elm again demonstrated hi- -tilling worth by carrying 131 pound- and achieving a splendid victory over some good ones that tried conclusions with him in the mile handicap of tl.aaa. Which featured today- card. Chief was his closest follower at the finish, with Kranklin in third place, heading Woodtrap and Nepperhan, only five starting. Summery weather was again the rule here, but the track was deep and holding, decidedly to the liking of the most pr Nsneed mud performers. Woodard- Opportunity showed a flash of hi- old time good form in the nccoad race in which he led from the start and furnished a big apart when he beat A. N. Akin and Redland. Doubt a- to Opportunitys fitness was responsible for the big liberties that the brokers took with him. Duke John furnished an upset in the fifth race whin he cantered home in advance of Jeneral Glenn and Accelerate. The winner was backed extensively and his victory east the ring heavily. A-traea and Belle Roberts furnished an exciting rentes! in the sixth race, with the former winning. The- showing of Mountain Bans II. in this wa- a dull one. and trainer J. B. ioodman wa- notified to apnea! before the stewards to explain the reason for it. Old Sleeth again proved a disappointment by fail- ing ill the final race, though hv made a game effort, but in the last sixteenth Don Dodge beat him out. Jockey Cottilettl again carried off the riding honors by piloting three of the afternoon! winners. t;. D. Bryan. Jr.. one of the leading spirits in the control of Jefferson Park, departed tonight for California, where he will stay several weeks before returning to New Orleans. He intends to visit los Angeles and Tijuana and look aver the racing situa- tion there ai-o to Interview Jack Dempsey, with a view to signing him for New Orleans to fight arpeutier for the WSC Ids heavyweight champion- -!. , . Jockey H. Lunsfortl was sabatitnted for him. lackey E. Coltile-tti was the first rider to win three- races in one- day at the present Fair Grounds meeting. He- was successful with Rapid Traveler, Afta Boy II. and Diamond Tuesday.
