CARM0DY IN LIMELIGHT AT HAVANA Young Apprentice Rides Three Winners — Currency Scores in Fast Run Race. HAVANA. Cuba. January 21. — The riding of J. Carmody was the outstanding feature of today** racing at Oriental Park. lie rode three winners. First Consul. Dr. Rae and Buck Nail. The youngster put up a splendid ride on Buck Nail, his powerful finish materially aiding the old gelding to get up and beat Great Oull in the final strides. Currency, running under the colors of T. J. Brown for the first time at Oriental Park, defeated a good band of sprinters in the fourth race It was the horses first victory here. Mr. Brown claimed him a few days back from J. T. Strite. He was ridden by the apprentice Archambault today, lie raced into a long lead rounding the far turn, but tired badly in the last eighth and had to stand a hard drive to beat out the favorite, High leaf, by a head. The second race resulted in a close finish, the smallest of margins separating Thorn Bloom and Frank Burke at the end of a fast drive-. Scotch Verdict, whose former owner. W. L. Fay. who got into trouble- aver some horses running at Empire City at the- last meeting there, is now the araperty of a. Ailegra, who aarchaaed the horse at Maryland during the Pimlico meeting. B. Thompson has written the officials here to make- an effort to locate Arthur English, who left his home i:i Brooklyn about a year ago to seek employ meat on a race track. His mother is seriously ill at the Brooklyn home. Among the arrivals were- James Boden. who has a public stable here. Mr. Boden came from New-York and will remain until the meeting closes. Among his horses here are those of the Triple Springs Farm Sable. I. Raymond arrived from Monlreal. Peter J. Gallagher, accompanied by his wife, got here this morning. Mr. Callagher came aboard his private- yatch from Key We-t. He will remain here for several days.
