January 24. -With jockeys Albert Johnson and Harry Hamilton and two other experienced boys in the saddle, the two-year-olds at John II. Bosaeters Wikiup Rancno, Sonoma County, were given trials last Saturday at the borne training caarae in the prtatajre of Mr. Koaaeter and a few fric nils. The trials were over the last quarter mile of a throo-iiuurtcrs of a mile track. The youngsters were worked in sets of four, the rider* being given the signal usually to let their mounts oaf in the last eighth. Horsemen attending the trials were favorably Impressed 1 y the performances of the youngsters The ronrse is by no means fast as yet. as it was only constriHted last fall. Despite the handicap of the henry course veteran timers caught some quarters that fairly ti ok their breath away. Fine opiu.ons ,.f the showings of the Friar Rocks especially were given by the horsemen which saw tin- trials. The brown Mm of Friar Rock and Dorotby Cray and the bay son of Friar Rock and Catherine Carson, that Mr. Koaaeter has nominated for the lassie three year old events of the English turf next year, galloped right along as though they c.nhl ••run over the moon" if the word were given. The young borses have not been rushed at all. BS it is Intended to give them every opportunity to mature and fill out before being sent to the races. The way they performed was all the MOTC of a delight lo their owner, inasmuch as they are nowhere near the form they will reach a little liter. A Friar Rock Rose of ...1.1 ...It kept rlaae company with his aristocratic stabteaaates i ••. their trial, xvith a Disguise-Dreaming colt close up all till w.iv. Royally-bred fillies showed they nrere runner-, too. The Friar Back -Watermelon and Friar R rk La Patrie Fillies, which have been nominated for the Epsom Oaks of MSI, were galloped with two other promising yoaagsters. The fillies were not asked to go along as fast as the colts, but demonstrated they know their business is to run fleetly and ronragi uaaly. Sentimental Interest attaches to the black or brown celt by Iloneywood Roman Lady, one of the iiimM forward of the young thoroughbreds. Not as large a- some of the other two-year-olds, the colt shewed the mosl speed *o all when worked wiih sons of well known California stallions. Mr. Reasetcr owned the mare Rom in Lady for quite a number of year-. She i- -aid lo be the first thoroughbred lie ever purchased.
