February 19.— Rain came down in torrents here last night and as a result of the changed track conditions todays program at Oriental Park was so riddled by scratches that it was found necessary lo declare off the original second anil third races and make up new cards for them. Tin betting public was as Brack at sea in selecting the winners as the favorites were in racing through the difficult goiny. only two being returned winners. Freemantle and Fairly were the successful choices and both won in runaway fashion. In emaiitles victory came in the Guatemala Handicap, ih, main contest of the afternoon, which aroma d but little eathaaiaaat, so easily was it achieved. The withdrawal of five nf the twelve carded starters in the opening dash left Twenty eveii the choice iii a betting way and. while he ran a good race, was no match for the Meelick gelding l.itholick. The latter disposed of Twenty Seveli after oing a half and then drew away into a big lead, crossing the winning line eight lengths in advance of the favorite. The substitute races were won by Key Mar and Boater Clark. The former defeated Lillian G. after a spirited stretch drive, drawing away in Ihe last quarter. Peaceful Star was the choice in this race, but appeared sore oing to the post and tired badly near the finish. Beater Clarks sue cess was iu th- nature of a surprise. He worked his way up on the outside and, overtaking the leaders in the stretch, drew away into a safe lead in the last sixteenth. Only four started in the fourth race, w ith •P.lack Piince with Carmody in the saddle, having the call over Ruby in the betting. In the racing, however, the latter dispelled all doubt as to the ultimate winner by quickly racing away into a big; lead, which she increased as the race progressed. Jockey Hunt ridfcog here is named Ford Hunt, not T. Hunt, his initials being omitteil through an error. He is an apprentice under contract to J. F. Dayton and has shown excellent form, considering his limited opportunities. Ford Hunt rides at less than ninety pounds, and is a particularly strong finisher for such a light hid. Jockey Anderson was susiiended for five days for rough riding iu the first race. The stewards issued a ruling that jockey Gargan be permitted iu future to ride only the horses his father. W. Gargan. may start. His rsdteg of the two year-old Painter on Tuesday was unsatisfactory to the officials. Mark Harped of Louisville, owner of the fast filly Marjorie Ilynes, arrived today for a brief visit. H. C. Smith with Prince Direct and E. H.
