ONTARIO JOCKEY CLUB OPTIMISTIC Confident No Adverse Action Will Be Taken Against Racing — Announce Stake Program. TORONTO. Ont., February IP. While the dales for Canadian racing in MSB have been announced there is still some doubt as to whether the program as announced will he carried out. Fnder the law. as it stands at present, there is no ban on racing. and therefore unless legislation is passed at the coming session of the Dominion parliament at Ottawa which will prohibit racing or race track betting, there is nothing to prevent the lidding of the race meetings as advertised. The seder-ia-council which lifted the ban on racing on January 1 simply pin matters hack in the ixisition they were in IWore the order was passed. Dr. .1. O. Rutherford who acted as n commissioner to inquire into the whole maltcr of racing iu Canada. is preparing his report and it is expected to he the basis .if legislation during the session which is to open at Ottawa on February 1li. It is likely that the report will be i:i the hands of the government early next week. Therefore, unless in the meantime there is legislation forbidding racing on any or all of the tracks in Canada there will be nothing to prevent the holding of a race meeting at Woodbine during the week of May 22 to May 29.
