MONSTER OYSTER OF SINGAPORE From time to time sportsmen of all sorts delight to air the record weights of the specimens they cap ¬ ture the pike coming in for a goodly share of the glory of the scales The old angling stager also airs the aggregate weight of his lish rather than that of individuals except here and there u specimen lish courts a ijuilldip all to itself Now as to crabs and lobsters The largest edible crab of which I have any record was one of thirteen pounds rather a coarsegrained fellow I should say and the heaviest lobster was twelve pounds Perhaps oysters do not count but probably the fellow that took the cuke was a Singapore oyster Tridacne gigantea ex ¬ hibited at the Fisheries Exhibition in 1SS3 whose shell was three feet four inches by two feet two inches The chaps weight with his clothes on was about 370 pounds Such a mollusc would make a nice titbit for a party armed with knife and fork and a gallon of vinegar Fishing Gazette
