RACE FOR THE EPSOM DERBY DERBYHOW HOW SPION KOP WON EASILY The race for the Epsom Derby won by Spioa Kop is thus told by the London Kirartsman KirartsmanMarshal Marshal Xeil broke the tapes but after a short delay an excellent start was effected AHeiiby appeared to strike off last and Abbots Trace was tlie first to show in front Xixt to him came Tctra tema with Poltava and Spiou Kop in close at ¬ tendance On fairly settling down the order was Abbots Trace Tetratema Sarchedon Marshal Xeil Daylight Patrol and Spiou Kop After going half a mile Abbots Trace had established a four lengths lead of Tetratema after which came Day ¬ light Patrol Sarchedon Attilius Polumctis Spiou Kop and Archaic with Firework last Coming down the hill Spion Kop moved up followed by Archaic and Orpheus Hereabouts Tetratema was Itouten and roudlng Tatteiiham Corner Abbots Trace came with a lead of Poltava Spiou Kcp and Orpheus Spion Kop speedily took second place anil going into the lead below the distance pursued by Archaic easily held the hitter at bay to win by two lengths a length and a half between second and third Sarchedon was fourth Poltava fifth Daylight Patrol sixth Torelore seventh IViluiuetis eighth Attilius ninth He Goes tenth Silvern eleventh All Prince twelfth and Kerasos last ex ¬ cept Allenby which broke a bloodvessel and was pulled up in front of the stands Abbots Trace fell Time by Bensons chronograph 234 J which was twofifths of n second better than Lembergs pre ¬ vious record for the race made in 1910
