FEATURE NOT ON THE CARD Glendoveer Gives Latonia Patrons New Style of Diversion Rain Comes Again Fair Orient OrientBeaten Beaten in the Long Race Mile Dazie First BY J L DEMPSEY DEMPSEYLATONIA LATONIA Ky July 8 An unusual incident came with the running of the fifth race this after ¬ noon which was contested by a mediocre band of twoyearolds and it was furnished by Glendoveer vhicii under an incompetent ride bolted soon after the start and crashed heavily against the inner rail gaining the infield and while in a dazed condition continued into the lake where she began swimming and finally reached the opposite bank where she scrambled up and stood placidly until one of the track police in a frenzied effort to capture her frightened her and caused her to again take to the water The bank she elected to swim to this time was steep and the approach to it deep with mud causing the horse to sink and almost become submerged Stable employes finally managed to grasp her bridle and keep her head above water A rowboat manned by several other stable helpers tried to make her swim to a shallower part of the lake but the filly seemingly was stuck fast in the mud After being in the water for more than fifteen minutes Glendoveer made a desperate effort to reach the bank and succeeded She was led to her stable seemingly none the worse for her ex ¬ perience The race was won by Judge Budrow in hollow fashion from Jetsam with Eleanor S follow ¬ ing A heavy shower which visited the track before the opening race spoiled whatever prospects there were for a good track and again turned the going into mud and gave opportunity for the more sturdy mud racers to display their prowess prowessSurprises Surprises developed with the running of most of the dashes the defeat of Fair Orient in the milo and a half being particularly costly Shille Ingh II beat him home but the Baker representa ¬ tive might have reversed the decision had Luns ford used better judgment and not guided him through the deepest going throughout the race raceAnother Another heavy jolt that the backers sustained came with the running of the 1800 mile and a sixteenth purse in which Simpleton was backed with rare confidence but he landed third and tiring badly The winner was Matinee Idol run ¬ ning for the first time in the colors of F J Kelly who claimed him in retaliation for Mose Goldblatts claiming Frank W WThe The opener went to Lady Luxury which favored by the going showed the most speed from the fitart and won from Sweeping Glance and Con ¬ verse verseW W G McClintock showed himself to be quite a mud runner when he accounted for the second race in runaway style from Tawasentha and Hilly lhr ton All Right Sir in this nearly came to grief on the first turn when he stumbled stumbledMile Mile Dazie had little difficulty taking down the purse in the fourth race which she won easily from Lady Fair Play and Tacola The latter was held responsible for Green Grass coming back limp1 ing and bleeding profusely from a cut on his hind leg sustained while he was leading just before reaching the stretch stretchTrainer Trainer John F Schorr in charge of The Porter and Siren Maid owned by Edward B McLean de ¬ parted tonight for Windsor where it is intended The Porter should start in the Frontier Handicap Both horses will after the Windsor meeting be shipped to Saratoga where the rest of the McLean stable will be transferred from here at the close of local racing Jockey OBrien will go to Wind ¬ sor to ride the horses
