GREAT CROWD AT DORVAL MONTREAL, Quebec, September 18. Todays racing at the Dorval course was witnessed by tlie largest gathering in the history of the club, over 10,000 people passing through the turnstiles. No special feature -Was carded for decision, but a well-balanced card of seven races made up the program and the racing was spirited throughout. Tlie going had dried out considerably on top and led the talent astray, with tlie result that tlie winners paid handsome divideuds. A sharp shower set in following the running of the fourth race and drove the large crowd to shelter, but did not alter the track conditions. Foxhaven, ridden by Dreyer, upset tlie talent in the opening dash, winning witli ease over the favorite Jacobean and Mary Cowell. Reconnaissance failed in tlie second dash, Mad May, a cast-off from the Ross establishment, winning. Joe Dreyer again handed the talent a jolt in the running of the fourth when he landed Resist home in a drive from Salvatelle and Sedan. C. W. Penniston of this city, who some years back raced a powerful stable of steeplechasers, was a visitor at the- track today. He is in the market to purchase promising three-year-old material for development into jumpers for next year. Three carloads of horses arrived from Toronto this morning. In the band were campaigners owned by J. S. Baldwin, J. Lewis, J. N. Pinkham, H. G. Woods, G. P. Montgomery and M. M. Shields. Owner, J. S. Whatley has followed up every known clue unsuccessfully in the search for the plater Fair and Wanner. A report that the mare had been located proved erroneous. P. S. Delaney, who trains a public stable for several local enthusiasts, is also on tlie lookout for promising timber-topper material. Jockey J, Dreyer is in offer of a contract to ride for B. Mock during tlie coming winter season at Oriental Part, Havana.
