AQUEDUCT RACING SPIRITED Tom McTaggart Defeats Arnold and Pickwick in the Woodmere Selling Stakes. AQUEDUCT, Y- September 21. A big crowd of Aqueduct racegoers were furnished n good program today, with the Woodmere Selling Stakes featuring and two overnight handicaps as semi-features. In the running of the Woodmere Stakes at three-quarters of a mile Tom McTaggart proved best. The P. T. Chinn representative came with a rush near the end to win by a half length from Arnold, the favorite, which bad set the pace from the start. Pickwick was third. The three were the prominent contenders all the way, the remainder of the field, finishing far back. Tom McTaggart received a good ride at the hands of C. Kumnier, saving ground on the turns and finishing next to the rail. Pilgrim accounted for the Roamer Handicap, at one mile, winning in a drive from War Mask, with Neddam, the early pacemaker, third. Lord Brighton was the . favorite, but the Hildreth colt tired in the stretch drive. Pilgrims race was a good one, the Widener gelding coming from far back at the head of the stretch to gain the decision. War Mask seemed the winner fifty yards out. hut Mooney rode Pilgrim close to the rail and got him up in the last twenty yards to win by three-quarters of a length. The second race, a handicap for fillies, and mares, at six and a half furlongs, brought out the best of that division now racing on the metropolitan circuit. Enfilade, the favorite, carrying the heavy impost of 120 pounds, proved the winner. After following the fast-going pacemaker, Wedding Cake, and Fruit Cake until fifty yards out the Schwartz mare, under the vigorous riding of Elisor, came with a rush and won going away by a length, with Wedding Cake second. Salvestra, second choice, got up in the last stride to beat Fruit Cake for third money. Jockey Elisor returned to the saddle today and had the mount on Lovers Lane II., the first since his fall from Fluff last Saturday. He got his mount off in front and retained the lead until far in the stretch, when she tired and was passed near the finish by Armistice and Challenger. The former got the verdict over Challenger by a head, with Lovers Lane II. third. Lovely ruled the favorite, witli Armistice second choice. Lovely failed to show sufficient speed. Challenger rail the best race, coming from far back and just failing to get up. M. .1. Potter claimed Armistice out of the first race from W. R. Coe for ,500. Joseph Ranhofer claimed War Loan out of the first race from A- K. .Mucombcr for ,525. Pierie-a-Feu was claimed out of the fifth race. Monday by the Kedgwick Stable for 1,505. E. D. Springer has sent his two-year-old colt Normal to the Schultz farm in New Jersey for the coming winter. A. J. Joyner has sold on private terms the two-year-old colt Sammy Jay to E. F. Whitney.
