CIRRUS FIRST IN PIERREPONT Hildreth Colt Defeats Cleopatra and Royce Rools in Game Fashion at Jamaica. JAMAICA, X. Y., October 2. S. C. Hildreths Cirrus, with 124 pounds up, proved hq is still a handy horse, when lie easily defeated Cleopatra and i Royce Rools in the Pierrepoiut Uandieap, at one mile and a quarter, the feature of the days racing at Jamaica. Cirrus ran the race in 2:0!5, which equaled the track record. The race was worth -,850 to the winner. Cirrus led all the way, with Cleopatra second. The latter wheeled when the barrier went up and was, rushed up in early racing to get a position, which told on her unfavorably. The third race, another for the cheaper grade of platers, saw Round Robin, held at almost prohibitive odds, spreadeagle his opponents. He was off in front and, making a good pace, won hard held by eight lengths. The Wit was an easy second, with Sir Clarence third. Le Gaulois showed fair speed in the early running, but quit badly in the stretch drive. Paddy Dear, odds-oii favorite, was an easy winner of the second race, a dash for platers over the one mile and a sixteenth route. The gelding raced in close pursuit of Sweet Tooth and Keziah, leaders until an eighth out, where he challenged Keziah, which had raced Sweet Tooth into defeat, and came on to win by five lengths. Regreso, which had been in the rear until far into the stretch, came with a rush near the end and was only beaten a head for second place by Keziah. J. W. McOlellands Caligula and John Sanfords Conine furnished a hair-lifting stretch duel in the opening dash for maiden two-year-olds. Both were public choices, with Conine a slight favorite at post time. Conine set the pace and Caligula was a close follower. The latter challenged when a sixteenth out and got up in the closing strides to get the verdict. Jockey Robinson, who rode Caligula, showed clearly he has not forgotten how to ride when he outjockeyed Ensor, who was astride Conine. Black Knight finished, third, two lengths back. Wi O.
