CHICAG0AN RECRUIT TO RACING LONDON, England, October 18.. Marshall Field, of Chicago is going in for English racing. It is generally understood here that the purchase by C. Boyd Rochford at the recent October sales of yearlings at Newmarket were made for the Chicago sportsman, who has not yet selected a trainer orj training quarters, but will soon do so. Five year-1 I 1 lings were bought at Newmarket. They and their pedigrees and prices were: Chestnut filly, by White Eagle Flaming Vixen, by Flying Fox, 7,000. Chestnut filly, by White Eagle Amphora, by Aniphion half-sister to Flash of Steel, 0,000. Bay colt, by Spearmint Burnt Almond, by Gal-linule half-brother to King Robert and Nutcracker, ,750. Brown colt, by Friar Marcus Cissy Brown, by Dark Ronald, ,500. Bay filly, by Juggernaut Belle Vale, by Isinglass half-sister , to Syrie, ,750. Two other yearlings, possibly for Mr. Field, were also bought at Doncaster by Rochford. They are: I I Bay colt; by Tredennis Clare, by Desmond brother to Treclare, .000.. I Bay colt, by Spearmint Snoot, by Perigord brotiier to Treclare, ,200. , j . The Spearmint Snoot colt was a great bargain. He was bought before the Irish-bred three-year-old Caligula won the Doncaster St. Leger. After Caligulas classic win the colts worth was en- hanced ten-fold. Had the youngster been offered after this race he would probably have brought 1 5,000 or 0,000, as he is a fine looker. I I .
