DF. JOE BEATS BONIFACE Dr. J- S. Tyrees Colt Scores Runaway Victory in Mile Handicap. Baby Grand Victorious Oceanna First in Steeplechase Four Straight for Bridesman. - LAUREL, Md.. October 21. A mile handicap for three-year-olds and a three-quarters mile handicap for two-year-olds divided interest in the Laurel program-, this afternoon. Dr. J. S. Tyrees four-year-old king James Adeliuette colt Dr. Joe inade a runaway race of the mile contest, heating Boniface and Wood Violet. J. K. L. Ross Baby Grand accounted for the other race, winning in a. drive from J, W. McClellands Despair, with W. T. Grives in third place. Dr. Joe, by running the mile in 1:30, showed himself to be a better racer than generally rated. Schuttiiiger. who rode him today, waited behind Old Dad and Boniface for half a mile, after which he moved up on the outside and drew into an easy lead to win by seven lengths. Boniface easily held second place from Wood Violet. Baby Grands victory was not so easily earned. Itubien, the Peter Quince Belle of Ashland two-year-old colt from the string of Walter J. Haltnoti, has developed a quarter crack and will b2 retired "from racing for the year. This colt, which has flirt twice, was originally registered as Fred RHliJen, but the forepart of the name was dropped. Natural Bridge was claimed out of the last race yesterday by Ral Parr for ,803.
