DECISIVE A BIG SURPRISE His Victory in Monkton Steeplechase Entirely Unexpected Results of Graded Handicaps. BY T. K. LYNCH. PIMLICO, Md., November 11. Howard W. Mas-wells five-year-old gelding Decisive upset all the calculations in the running of the Monkton three- mile steeplechase handicap, which featured the program of the Maryland Jockey Club this afternoon. Running in a contending ixsition throughout. Decisive Avon by a good margin from Skibbereen and Earlockcr. The association added $,5000 to the event and ,250 of it went to the winner In compliance with a request of Wm. F. Broen-ing. Mayor of Baltimore, in connection with the declaration of a holiday in observance of the Armistice anniversary, racing activities stopped for one minute this afternoon, beginning at four oclock. At a signal In the judges stand, which was gayly decked with American flags, the crowd stood while the band played the "Star Spangled Banner." Post time for the sixth race was moved back until 4:05 oclock. The Pimlico graded handicap in three sections served as the secondary feature of the days racing. Each contest was at a mile. The first fell to Morton L. Schwartzs Audacious with Sennings Park in second place and Leochares third. Carpet Sweeper was victorious in the second division with Rapid Traveler and Super second and third respectively. In the third War Cry was first, Mayor House second and Pastoral Swain third. P. Summerfield claimed Madrdno today from the Sunnyland Stable for ,200. J. B. Campbell, who will serve as secretary at the Jefferson Park meeting, leaves for New Orleans tomorrow night. C. K. Moore returned to New York today after spending a day watching them run at the hilltop course. His horses have been shipped to Havana. Sam Blake leaves for San Diego Sunday night to take in the racing at Tijuana during the winter. Jim Flynn has taken over the book of jockey Pierce and will make his mounts here and at Bowie. Coinme Gi, winner of the seventh race yesterday, was run up to ,105 and retained by his owner. A. Swenke claimed Deckmate for 2,500.
