ALREADY TALKING RACING Interest in Approaching Spring Season Becoming Keen Inchcape Will Stand Training Tryster Is Small but Every EveryInch Inch a Race Horse NEW YORK N Y February 2S Interest in the appruaching racing on the courses of the metropolitan circuit is becoming keen In les limn ten weeks the flags will bo flying at Jamaica and that popular course will be thronged with an army of men and women who find the thoroughbred a medium for healthful recreation recreationThe The coming racing season may not produce a Man o War his kind is seen only once in a life ¬ time but the material shown in the two and threeyearold division last year was of sufficient brilliancy to indicate i noteworthy season of sport in 1021 Speculation is keenest in connection with j tho threeyearold situation and racing devotees may well look forward to the contests between the stars in that division A feature of tiie year should be the races between Inchcape and Grey Lng from the Raneocas Farm of Harry F Sinclair and Tryster Prudery and others from the Brookdale establishment of Harry Payne Whitney These sportsmen are great friends and because of that fact the rivalry between them on the turf is all the keener Their establishments are in the same zone and there will be no advantage in training conditions conditionsThose Those who have seen luehcape say that he has grown and developed greatly dpring the winter He was a most prepossessing twoyearold and raced like a real champion until he was disabled There are no indications of lejj or tendon troubles I and hi trainer S Hildrcth has no fears of getting the son of Friar Rock to the races Grey Lag was a good colt during the late autumn and he too is in fine fettle With such a formidable1 pair of colts Hlldreth will have the material to make Tryster run all the way in such races as the Realization This trainer is a past master at the old game of two pluck one oneTrystpr Trystpr was not a bis colt at two and he is not i bijr threeyearold but he is all horse and JKIS se ses that best of assets in u race horse u beauti ¬ ful disposition He is as light in the forehand as a gelding and ought to train early and easily The j fact that he was unbeaten as a twoyearold and always won his races by the narrowest of margins is a token of his quality indicating in the first instance tho ability to triumph and in the second the tendency to do no moru than he is compelled to in order to win The horse that wins his races by a head or a nock but keejM on winning is u desirable racing tool and should be worth patron ¬ izing in the stud when he is retired from the turf turfLEONARDO LEONARDO II MIDSUMMER SENSATION SENSATIONThere There are other elements in the threeyearold field which must be considered however Two yearolds that are backward often develop into cracks ill three in fact they furnish some of the elements of surprise for which the turf is famous Tho performances late in the year of Bon Iloinme Muleiber and others that showed their best form near tho end of the year encouraged the belief that they were beyond the ordinary Leonardo II in the Xalapa Farm outfit was u midsummer sensa ¬ tion and yet those who were close to the stable knew that John Paul Icnes was regarded as good as anything in tho barn a big knee preventing his being trained as he should have l ecu to bring out the best that was in him As lie is a sou of Tracery and the Spearmint mare Moneta lie should Ktay till the cov eome home From the above it would indicate that Xalapa Farm will have to be reckoned with in the threeyearold events before the close of the coming season seasonPrudery Prudery Nancy Lee Careful and Slop Lightly wore the best of lie twoyearold fillies on public form and the former with the exception of her race in the Futurity showed enough quality to war ¬ rant in placing her right at tin top of the fwo ycarold tree Fillies also have a way of coming to hand and displaying unexpected form sis three yearolds and there might be a clinking flood stayer among those that were beaten last year It is this characteristic which is going to add zest to the Coaching Oaks and other races exclusively for mares that will be decided this year The filly that was raced with tho greatest intelligence with a view to having licv perform well as a Ihreeyear old was Nancy Lee Mr Woodward decided at Saratoga that tin lovely daughter of Broomstick had done enough for one year and sent her home It i tho wirt of treatment which will make her all the more desirable as a matron when she has retired to the quietude of Bellair BellairThe The storm of the last week was the only setback in training operations during a winter which has been remarkable for its mildness It has enabled trainers to have their charges out of doors every day and from the playful capers of the horses it is evident that iltoy are quite as eager for tin open ¬ ing of the racing season as those who make the sport possible by their patronage SCALES OF WEIGHTS FOR MARCH 1921 OneHalf Mile Twoyearolds 1 YV S3 S3Throoyearolds Throoyearolds UN HI HIF F ryinrold i 117 12Ti 12TiFivo Fivo yi arolds and upward 121 12ii 12iiThree
