THREE STRAIGHT VICTORIES General Menocal Continues Win ¬ ning Streak at Oriental Park Looms Up as Formidable Candr date for Cuban Derby Yester ¬ days Racing Spirited HAVANA Cuba March 22 The fourth race ou todays program it Oriental Park u dash of a mile and a sixteenth for threeyearolds was in the nature of a trial for the Cuban Derby to he run next Sunday There were five starters and all are eligible to the blr race The Armonia Stables General Menoeal was the outstanding elioice and hi easy victory made an excellent impression on all who witnessed the race After beginning slowly and being cut off on the turn out of the back stretch General Meuoeal was taken to the outside and finishing fast caught the leader in thclast eighth and drew away into n safe lead at the end Incidentally it was his third straight victory and his improvement has been such that he will not lack admirers who are convinced that he will prove a formidable opponent for Iilly Barton and Aiken the DerbyThere most favored ones for the Derby There were plenty opportunities for the spectators to give vent to their enthusiasm as the majority of the races furnished interesting contests with the winners in doubt until their numbers were hung up Favorites however did not play a prominent part In the results General Menoeal being the only pronounced choice to score Driving finishes marked the running of the first two races of the afternoon In the initial dash Kinma AV beat Orris a head with Athgarvcn right at their heels The result was in doubt until file final strides Sonor Lezamas Bibbler furnished a big surprise when she scored in the second race at the odds of 20 to 1 She outstayed Finis in a great finish after Lyric tired with victory alniost in his grasp Al Porter was favored in the third race but did nothing to warrant the support accorded him Orleans Girl Aunt Deda and San Diego crossed the winning line in the order named the last mentioned setting lie pace to the last eighth before relin iiuishing the lead White Haven and Buck Xail accounted for the closing dashes of the day the former passing Ar ¬ mistice In ihe last strides to get the verdict In the fifth while Ituck Null under Kennedys good ride closed a hig gap in sensational style and turned what appeared certain defeat into a grain victory in the sixth race raceJockey Jockey McDermott was taken ill this morning and had to cancel his engagements for this afternoon afternoonFrank Frank Stevens in charge of K 1 Springers stable will turn out at the local track the Imrses Hyeres Anita Springer Hettys Pet and Kavanna after the close ft the meeting meetingToiii Toiii Hodge turned over the young mare Salurose to A X Watts In exchange for the sevenyearold Langhornc LanghorncThe The good selling plater Brig of War which Wllliniu Dundas raced here for Dan Lchaii of Louisville Ky was cut down in the last race odny and as a consequence will be on the shelf for some time timeAt At the Oriental Park Stud this morning the maro ChatterlKx foaled a filly by Solomon The young ¬ ster was almost as large as a yearling yearlingSeven Seven horses which Logan Denny has been raciug here will be shipped next Tuesday t j William Bradleys Ardmore Stock Farm near Somerville X J to be turned out
