MORE MUDDY TRACK RACING Latonia Course Drenched Again and Diminishes Attendance His Choice Takes the Principal Race in Which H E Cole man Is a Failure LATONIA Ky June 0 Mud and plenty of it was again the rule here this afternoon due to an additional rainfall this morning but a ciiange in weather conditions came during the afternoon and the final races found the sun doing its full duty Had good weather prevailed at or before race time it would have meant many thousands additional to the crowd that witnessed the sport Small sportSmall fields went to the post in the respective dashes but nearly all the starters were known to have mud running ability consequently the racing did goingThe not suffer as a result of the adverse going The threequarters sprint for a purse of 1900 was the outstanding feature from a monetary point and brought to the barrier six highly regarded short distance performers II E Coleman for which an offer of 10000 was turned down was regarded as best by most of the racers but he proved a disappointment not because he was lacking but as a result of jockey Barretts poor ride on him It might have been the result of the mud getting in Barretts eyes for he rode him all over the track The winner turned up in His Choice which at the barrier showed symptoms of sudden soreness but after jogging around in a circle several times lined up again without a trace of the ailment and during the running followed Rising Rock fairly close uparid passed him in the last sixteenth Ris ¬ ing Rock finished gamely and outstayed Brother Batch The latter had gotten off poorly and closed an immense gap II E Coleman followed him himThe The crowd was given a thrill in the sixth race in which twoyearolds competed the winner here turning up in Miss Crestwood which triumphed over Alverida by a nose in the last stride with Deep Sinker landing third The favorite here Aln meda Girl ran a poo race and was always far back backJockey Jockey Lyke signalized his return to the saddle by piloting Hadrian to victory in the opener He hart to put up a powerful finish to wear Marvin May down and succeeded only in the last seventy yards yardsDISAPPOINTING DISAPPOINTING THE VIRGINIAN WINS WINSThe The frequently disappointing The Virginian finally managed to graduate from the maiden ranks when he finished in the van in the second race but his success was more due to Allens inability on Black Rock than to his own merit for the latter would have won had he received a good ride rideGallaher Gallaher Bros made amends for Black Rocks defeat by the victory of their filly Whirl which won with case in the third race from Comedie rt Amour AmourDr Dr Rae had the call in the mile and a quarter dash and he justified the confidence of his backers by an easy win from the veteran Pit which was coming with a rush and just managed to overhaul Captain Tom for third place placeThe The final race enabled the diminutive Tosiah re ¬ cently taken over by the Edward B McLean stable to earn his first brackets here by piloting Easte side to victory He earned his laurels by riding the colt faultlessly Will o the Wisp was a neck back with Miss Fontaine only a head further away and a length in advance of Bygone Days the favorite favoriteDeep Deep Sinker was claimed from the sixth race by F J Kelly at a cost of 2300 2300C C J Brockmillcr secured Bygone Days via the claiming route for 2400 2400Jockey Jockey T Nolan who is under contract to Walden and Morris is expected to arrive here tomorrow to join the stable stableTrack Track superintendent Thomas Young of the Churchill Downs track was a visitor today and Avill remain over until the running of the Latonia Derby He reports that there are few horses at the Downs at present presentUncle Uncle Volo is an expected starter in the Latonia Derby and was given a mile and a quarter trial this morning morningJockeys Jockeys M Garner and L Lyke returned to the saddle this afternoon after a suspension incurred at Churcliil Downs for rough riding Upon ridingUpon the plea of Will Perkins the present trainer of the horse Sam McMeekin the stewards have con ¬ sented to give the latter another chance at the barrier Perkins promising that if the horse did not get away the next time he would never attempt to start him again
