REMOUNT SERVICE NEWS Government Stallions Doing Well on West Kentucky and Tennessee Farms LEXINGTON Ky Juno 10 Colonel Henry C Whitehead who has supervision of the stallions in the United States Government Remount Service for this section of the country returned today from a trip of inspection of threeyearold animals bred on farms in western Kentucky and Tennes ¬ see from stallions furnished from the breeding bureau of the Department of Agriculture which stallions last year were taken into the Remount Ser ¬ vice together with the contracts that had been made witli the farms farmsUnder Under the contract said Colonel WJiitehead the mare owner had the right to cancel the gov ¬ ernments option on his colt by the payment of 23 as the stallion service fee nnd the govern ¬ ment had the right to cancel the option by dis ¬ charging the obligation of the farmer to pay the service fee I found that in the greatest number of instances tho farmers had paid the fee and kept their colts or sold them for prices in ex ¬ cess of the governments option Others who had their colts were glad when I agreul to cancel the government option by giving them service free The government immediately Is not in need of these horses and the farmers arc so it lias worked out happily happilyColonel Colonel Whitehead said lie saw Duval one of the stallions turned over to the Remount Service by tho Kentucky Racing Commission it Wickliffe whore lie is in charge of II F Turner Duval I found was the pride of that section said Colonel Whitehead He is a good looking horse and a good sire that has been well patronized I found that the two stallions in the service at Gallatin Tenn this season have served lr mares and they are in excellent condition The people are much interested in the work of the Remount Service and are coming to understand its importance to the nation
