narrativesPerhaps Perhaps the most conspicuous improvement made this year is the annexing of the property between Lincoln and Union avenues bought in 1920 This will in the future form an integral part of the superb course permission having been secured from the Saratoga council for the removal of the trolley tracks from Lincoln avenue This triangular hrea Lias been beautified beyond recognition The prop ¬ erty at tlie Junction of Lincoln and Uion avenues forming the apex of the triangle which was se ¬ cured later than the balance has been rid of its Unsightly building and the area has been improved with trees and shrubs in keeping with the rest of the course Many of the elms and maples which liave been transplanted arc of size and beauty beautyTlie Tlie public will not suffer for lack of transporta ¬ tion however through the change us the trolleys which bring thousands from the nearby cities and towns have been routed through a fiftyfoot street on the property of the association at the west end of tlie icly ucijnired territory and tlieuce along Union Avenue over i twentyfoot strip between the fcidcwalk and the iron fence bounding the properly A turn will bo made into East Avenue before its reaching the apex of the triangle thus avoiding a congestion which would otherwise be inevitable be twecn foot passengers and automobiles automobilesWillie Willie Nature has been prodigal with her gifts at tills lovely spot the management has aided her by installing it lake in tlie infield opposite the granCitnnd iii which four fountains will play every afternoon during the races Tiiis pretty body of water which Is several hundred feet long looks as though it had been there forever as it shimmers in tlie afternoon sunlight these blight springlike days daysSCORE SCORE OF SIMS TRANSPLANTED TRANSPLANTEDTlfe Tlfe margins of the steeplechase course at both the upper and lower turns have been defined by shrubs of arbor vitae and the jumps themselves have been topped and reinforced in the same fashr ion Visitors to the course will recall tlie group of splendid maples in tlie field opposite the club house extending clear to tlie back stretch The upper portion of tlie Infield formerly barren of trees lias now been improved through the installa tion of almost a score of elms many of them a foot through so that tlie distant mountains afford a vista of surpassing beauty The new planting has not interfered with a view of tlie course courseHundreds Hundreds of other fine elms and maples have been planted at various points by Wadleigh Smytlie and all of them are growing as though nature had placed them In their present abode as seedlings A number of the finest Avith the addition of shrubs have transformed the space between the clubhouse and carriage stand into u place of sylvan charm Tlie old wooden platform and shed where clubhouse patrons alighted from their motor cars have disappeared A neat concrete platform and sidewalk leading to tlie club takes H place An archway will be covered by a canvas awning q blue and white in harmony with the surroundings All of tlie space between the clubhousu and Lincoln avenue to the west of tlie paddock has been ar ¬ tistically improved with shrubs and flowers in neat beds The iron rail which formerly defined the boundary between the paddock and entrance roads has been removed removedA A change which will add to the enjoyment of the public comes through tlie removal of tlie row of hydrangeas which bordered the course in front of the clubhouse and grandstand This space hi been included in the lawn and patrons will be benefited by the change which will put them at the very track side where tkey can observe every movement of tlie horses during a race raceThe The track itself is in perfect condition It has been harrowed and worked systematically by super ¬ intendent Clare for some time and its surface is now as fast as could be desired while at the same time possessing that degree of safety for which it is known to horsemen horsemenHorsehaven Horsehaven aiid Oklahoma the properties across Union Avenue are as neat and inviting as any other portion of tlie course Mr Clare lias the stables and kitchens whitewashed and in readiness for their occupants The larger of the two build ¬ ings formerly at Lincoln and Union Avenues lias been moved to Horsuhavcn whore it will be used as a kitchen while the smaller forms a permanent improvement in tlie field iifilosuru as a womans retiring room roomEverything Everything is in readiness for the opening on Monday August 1 and the natives are counting the days which will see their town converted into a city as cosmopolitan as any on the conthieiit There is general rejoicing that there will be no advance In the rat eg which woman patrons will have to pay over that of former years
