THREE-YEAR -OLD HONORS Latonia Championship Stakes May Decide Supremacy of the Year. Kentucky again will In; the final battle ground of aspirants for the three-year-old crown when the valuable Latonia Championship Stakes is run at the Milhlale course next autumn. The distance of the event, one and three-quarters miles, makes of it a test that will leave no grounds to dispute the winners claim to supremacy iu his division. Probably chief interest in this years running of the event centers in the fact that it will bring together for the last time in 1921 Hlack Servant and Grey Lag, which to some now seem to have between them the three-year-ohl title. Whatever may be the outcome of previous clashes between the pair iu Canada and Saratoga, the Latonia Championship will he looked upon as the real decision of the problem, combining as it does a test of both speed and stamina. Rut these stars are not expected to have the race to themselves by any means. Thoroughbreds which they have conquered at lesser distances may turn the tables over the long route,. and just now the Championship is looked upon as quite an open event. Col. Matt .1. Winn, vice president anil general manager of the Kentucky Jockey Club, is spending much time in the East this summer recruiting star performers of that section for the rich array if stakes to be decided on the Kentucky circuit. Rivaling the litonia Championship in interest is the juvenile race at Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, at one mile. The best two-year-olds in the Hast are expected to come AVest for this race, which in its initial running last year made Tryster, the winner, tile favorite for the ensuing Kentucky Derby. Through victory iu this mile race Tryster went Into winter quarters the undisputed two-year-old king. Among the leading contenders for the Latonia Championship next fall is Rrother Hatch, winner of the Iitouia Derby, at one mile and a half. Although this race was a poorly run affair, Itrother Hatch won easily and trainer C. C. Van Jioter is eonfiilentm,ttb1rbig" race will -be- jut to -his can-didctes capability. Hrotiier Hatch is a long-striding animal and has the appearance of being able to run all day. Another Kentucky eligible that may cut some figure in the race is the stablemate of Hlack Servant, Hehave Yourself, winner of the Kentucky Derby. E. It. Hradley, owner of the pair, is pointing this colt especially for the contest. He won the Kentucky Derby going away, and iu all of his races has shown a tendency to come from behind. Senator Johnson X. Camdens Itaugoon is another that is being primed for the big race. Rangoon possesses a high flight of speed, anil, although his early races last spring were not impressive, hi; later came with a rush and must be accorded a chance in any kind of competition. John Hachmeis-ters MeGoodwin also is fancied by stable connections. It is believed that Sam Ilildreth will be represented by starters in the Championship. Along with Grey Lag he is expecteil to send Knohhie, which has forged io the front ranks this spring and summer. Ilildreth also has Playfellow, but the wind trouble of the brother of Man o War doubtless will cause the trainer of the Uancocas Stable to rely on his star duo. Sporting Hlood, which made an unsuccessful trip to Kentucky to run against Grey Iig, Tryster, Hehave Yourself and others in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes last fall, is another eastern candidate that is accorded attention. Among others that figure in advance consideration are Touch Me Not, Tryster, I.onardo II., Despair, Hon Homme, Oriole, Star Voter, Copper Demon. Incle Velo, Cltmidge, Flambette, Nancy Lee and Hen Valet.
