ORIOLE IS A DISMAL FAILURE Runs Poorly in Main Race at Ottawa, in Which He Was Overwhelming Favorite. OTTAWA, Out., September 15. The running of the Capital City Purse, which was offered as the feature attraction at Connaught Park this afternoon, resulted in a stirring finish, in which Lads Love got up to beat ICuklux by a scant neck, while Day-due finished third. The race was for three-year, olds and over at three-quarters of a mile and it brought together the best band of horses that has faced the starter during the meeting. J. K. L. Boss Oriole was installed a prohibitive favorite, but he was a sore disappointment to his backers. He was fractious at the barrier and repeatedly lunged and finally unseated his rider. When the barrier was sprung Ikcy T. and Oriole were the ones to set the pace. Daydue. which got away sluggishly, was rushed into a contending position next to the inside rail. At the turn into the stretch the favorite went to the extreme outside fence, and Kuklux moved up menacingly. Dreyer, on the winner, came with a rush on the outside and wore down Kuklux to win going away at the end. The time for the race, despite the cuppy and uncertain track, was the best of the meeting. The winner was practically neglected and returned a large dividend. Ideal weather conditions prevailed and the largest crowd of the meeting journeyed to the course to witness the raeing, which was a decided improvement over that of yesterday. The E. T. Zollicoffer stable added another purse to its credit when Musito defeated Plain Bill. The latter was the one to set the pace, but failed when challenged by Mm-ito in the final eighth. A band of Canadian-breds faced the barrier in the third race at one mile. Mouette, ridden by Ko-manelli, and supported with rare confidence by the public, was returned the winner with ease from Blarney Boy and Landless. Joseph McLennan received a telegram from New York asking that Jimmy Heed, who is supposed to be at one of the tracks in Canada, communicate with his sister. S. Miodow, owner of Lads Love, and Sam Nes-bitt, who is racing a string of Canadian horses, were arrivals from Montreal. P. J. Miles added Blazonry to his band after the seventh race yesterday. Ho secured the horse via the claiming route. Miles lost Panaroan at Dorval Park and is icplenishing his stable. The Seagram Stable disposed of the Canadian bred Myrtle Crown to J. Allan, who will ship her to Cuba at the conclusion of the Kcnilworth meeting. Hidden Ship, in the Zollicoffer stable, has been fired and no attempt will be made to race her before the New Orleans meeting. Overrun came out of her race today badly cut down. She was in front on the far turn, where the field was bunched up, and was jumped on.
