, LATONIAS CAPITAL RACING c . Fast Track, Fine Weather and Spirited Finishes Feature. Advocate Furnishes a Surprise in the Main Race Bettina Wins Martha Fallon Beaten. - LATONIA, Ky., September 10. Fast and interesting racing was witnessed Ilcrc by the best midweek day crowd in attendance during the present meeting. The increase was due to an influx of visitors from distant points to view the decision of the third Latonia Championship Stakes tomorrow. The seven race program was an interesting one. some of the dashes having as starters some of the better horses now in these parts. The mile purse featured and it furnished disappointment to the many easterners, who, for sentimental reasons, as well as being of the belief that Dcbadou was best, installed the 3Irs. Payne Whitney horse in the post of honor. The brother Of Lcochares proved a dismal failure and he ceased to figure as a factor in the race after three-quarters of the way had been covered. Advocate, neglected in the betting despite his good previous racing, took command at the rise of the barrier and won all the way from Parader. which showed good form on the firm track. United Verde, Louis A. and Bunga Buck finished grouped and the judges gave the shorter portion of the purse to Clarks representative. There was speed galore in the fifth race, a three-quarters sprint, with Miss Muffins the one most fancied, but she was taken into camp by Bettina, which finished with a rush and rattled Xarke-so badly that he almost fell 6ff 3Iiss Muf-firisnear the end in his effort to withstand the Camden fillys rush. Colonel Baker, after having been in close pursuit of 3Iiss 3Iuffins for the greater part of the race, began tiring near the end and just lasted to outstay Ben Bolt. The latter ran a fim race, considering his slow beginning. 3Iiss 3Iuf-fins undoing was partially due to Runzaf forcing her at her best speed for the first half mile to retain the lead. Backers of favorites did not fare as fruitfully as on previous days and they began inauspiciousl.r with the downfall of the erratic Hereafter. That racer flattered extensively for a half mile, but when beginning the stretch drive lie also began shortening his stride and the finish found him outside of the money. Honor 3Ian, which ran a winning race in his last start, repeated here and won commandingly from the sulky Furbelow, which came with a great rush after she was completely out of any chance. The outstanding upset of the afternoon came with the victory of F. J. Kelleys Lady ilother. which outfinishpd 3Iartha Fallon in the last twenty yards to win by a slight margin, with Bernice K. in third place. Lina Clark would have been a dangerous contender in the race but for being badly cut off when she attempted coining through next to the inner rail on the stretch turn. John Lowes Salamander finally graduated from the maiden ranks when he succeeded in overhauling Settle in the last seventy yards of the three-quarter dash. Red Wingfield finished third and was probably best in the race. Tardiness at the start was his trouble. The same applied to H. P. Headleys Dad, which had the support of the Lcxingtonians. Salamander ruled the favorite. Virgo was given the call in the third race, but again the favorite backers sustained losses when Candle Light won with ease. Virgo finished second, but had to do his best to outstay Mclvin, which came with a rush right at the end. The final dash served as a puzzler with a scattered backing about all. High Gear ultimately won with some ease from Harlock. with the suddenly improved Kimpalong in third place. Grace and Dacing Spray would not race in their best style. Jockey Scobic is on his way to New York, where he rides one of John E. Maddens starters tomorrow. Thomas Carey, owner of the Hawthorne track in Chicago, came over to witness the racing for several days. Jliehacl Byrne is another well-known Chicagoan identified with racing that came today for a brief stay.
