LAUREL STAKE ENTRIES Oyer 1,100 Nominations for Fall Fixtures Break All Previous Records. BALTIMORE, Md.. September 21. The stakes to be run at the October meeting of the Maryland State Fair, at Laurel Fark. have attracted a list of nominations that promise racing of the highest grade. This is not only from the number of entries received by racing secretary Frank J. Bryan, though they break all records, but from the quality of horses that have been named for the various tures. In framing the stake program an effort was made to provide races at various distances and for all ages that would attract the best horses in training. The success achieved is sliown in a total of 1,13-1 nominations for nine stakes. The list of nominators contains the names of such well-known turf patrons as Admiral Cary T. Grayson, Harry Payne Whitney, Mrs. Payne Whitney, Joseph E. Davis, Herbert L. lratt, Edward R. Bradley, Mrs. F. Ambrose Clark, Joseph S. Widcuer, J. S. Cosden, Xalapa Farm, Edward M. Weld, Ral Parr, II. W. Maxwell, Pelican Stable, Benjamin Block. Walter J. Salmon, Rancocas Stable. Lawrence Waterbury. John Sanford, Belair Stud, Quincy Stable, Riviera Stable, Robert L. Gerry. John E. Madden. Lexington Stable, Max Hirsch. J. K. L. Ross. Gifford A. Cochran, J. F. Flanagan, Jr.. A. li. Spreckols, Richard T. Wilson, Mrs. George W. Loft. J. Temple Gwathmey, S. . nildreth, A. II. Morris, Thomas Clyde, Walter M. Jeffords, George W. Lott. Edward B. iMcLcan, Morton L. Schwartz, Edward F. Whitney and the Seagram Stable. This list, witli more than fifty others, means that the best friends of racing are going to Laurel in October to give Maryland a brand of sport of the highest character. The total nominations for the several stakes are: National Stakes, for two-year-olds, three-quarters of a mile. 107. Manor Stakes, for two-year-olds, one mile. 190. Maryland Handicap, for thrcc-year-olds, oue mile and a quarter, S2. Laurel Stakes, for all ages, one mile, 1S7. Annapolis Stakes, for three-year-olds and over, one mile and a half, 123. Capital Stakes, for three-year-olds and over, three quarters of a mile, 137. Ticket of Leave Steeplechase, for three-year-olds, two miles. 28. Chevy Chase Steeplechase, for four-year-olds and over, two and a half miles, SO. Patuxent Steeplechase, for thrce-ycar-olds and over, two miles. S4. Grand total, 1.134 nominations.
