The Xalapa Farm Stable is made up of the horses owned by E. F. Simms, while the Lexington Stable is composed of the horses owned by E. F. Simms and Harry Oliver in partnership. D. C. B., Chicago, III. The fourth race at Empire City, October 17, was a stake race, in which the Rancocas Stable had Mad Hatter. Purchase, Cirrus, Thunderclap, Dominique, Krewer, Grey Lag, Knobble and Edgar Allan Foe entered. Of these it named Mad Hatter and Knobbie to start, but before the race withdrew this pair and substituted Thunderclap. Under the rules it had the right to do this and Thunderclap ran for whoever might back the entry. Had he won they would have been paid.
