, , LOUISVILLES GOOD RACING n Two Favorites Win to Begin, Then Reverses Overtake Backers. . il Radio Defeats United Verde and Herd Girl Unexpectedly Long1 Price on Diana. r r z i LOUISVILLE, Ky., October 19. A heavily overcast sky and a light drizzle for the greater part of the afternoon did not detract to any noticeable extent from the sport or materially decrease the largo attendance. The track continued perfect throughout the afternoon. The slight showers that fell were quickly absorbed and cemented the going into firmer footing. Tho outstanding race was the sixth, in which some good ones met and furnished a hard-fought finish, Avith Radio the victor over United Verde. The latter, ridden by Kederis, AAas favorite and probably best, but succumbed as a result of Kederis making much use of him in the enrly running, also the bumping he took at the start and later his caroming into Humphrey on the first turn did him ho good. He succeeded in racing by Humphrey in the first quarter, but Avas kept under hard pressure to retain his lead. Just before reaching the stretch turn his prospects appeared brighter, for Humphrey Avas done and nerd Girl showed signs of tiring. But here Kederis made the mistake of. drawing aAvay from the rail arid it enabled Radio, Avhich had come , like a rocket, to range alongside in the last eighth and the final drive found United Aerde giving away slightlr. Herd Girl outstayed the others for third place. Sailor, making his initial start here this fall, refused to go and Avas left. Favorite backers got away in pleasing style when Ahadane and Lieut. Colonel Averc returned victors in the first pair of dashes. Thereafter it was rough going, the choices going down iu defeat in steady order. Runzaf Avas given the most consideration in the mile and a sixteenth dash, in which three-year-olds met, but he was a bad disappointment and failed to get any part of the purse, Ben Aalet, racing in his best stylo, taking the lead at once and holding it throughout to Avin from Cimarron, Avith the fast coming Tan Son just missing second place. Botheration AAas preferred in the fourth race, in which fifteen started, but he also failed to get a part of the purse, the winner here being Judge Pryor, which, lucky from the start, just managed to outstay Tharon, Aith Bermout lapped on the two. College Girl and Georgette divided attention in the fifth race, in AAhich two-year-olds met at seven-eighths, but again came disappointment, for Precious Lula Avon easily from Bonus, with Thibo-daux in third place. The concluding race found Diana Ui Avinner after having led all the Avay, witli High Gear just outstaying Sea Prince. Dianas performance Avas decidedly a form reversal. In her last race, at three-quarters, supposed to be her best distance, she quit badly, but today she led all the way in resolute style and Avas never seriously in danger of being headed. High Gear Avas claimed by S. T. Batehler, represented in the race bv Mab, at a cost of ,200. E. R. Bradley intends to ship Bit of White to Maryland after the close of the Kentucky racing to start in all the long-distance stahc races to which she is eligible. She will be among the starters iu the Louisville Cup next Saturday. Radio Avas Avorked out farther after his Aictory in the sixth race, in preparation for starting in the Louisville Cup. Mose Goldblatt added to his stable this morniug by private purchase the colts Sam Frank and Carico. They will be raced in Havana next winter. Jockey Lyke has been ordered by his doctor to remain indoors for the next three or four days to AA-ard off a threatened atttack of pneumonia. In addition to the numerous shipments for New-Orleans next week there Avill be a special train of ten express cars from Lexington on the closing day of the meeting. Their departure then will bp just in advance of the contemplated railroad strike, should that disaster become a reality.
