SOCIETY DAY AT LAUREL Ladies of Maryland State Fair Lease Starters in Chincoteague Handicap. LAlBKL, Mil.. October 19. The Chincoteague Handieap. for three-year-olds, at a mile and a sixteenth, was offered as the feature attraction at Laurel Park this afternoon. Tills race was for horses that were owned or leased by a member of the Maryland State Fair and marked a new departure at the Laurel track. Society matrons of Baltimore leased live of the horses and the winner turned up in Top Sergeant, racing under the silks of Mrs. Harry A. Parr. Jr., from Mrs. J. S. Cosilens Blazes, with Mrs. J. 1. Bonsais Lunetta third. There were six starters in the race and Lunetta was sent to the front witli a rush right after the start and was closely pursued by the winner, while the remainder of the field were in close formation. Rounding the stretch turn neupel went to the whip on Lunetta and Top Sergeant responded in a courageous manner when called upon. Blazes was close to the inside rail, but came to the outside at the stretch turn and closed with good speed, but could not get to the winner. Mrs. II. A. Parr, Jr., was called to the judges pagoda and presented with a diamond pin. The Ticket of Leave Steeplechase, for three-year-olds, to which ,000 was added, was the richest offering in a- monetary way during the afternoon. J. S Cosdens Musty was the victor over Sobrigade, with Briganna third. The winner was top weight and made all the pace and jumped in good form, .although she showed a tendency to bear out. Climatic conditions were all that could be desired this afternoon and the ideal weather helped to bring out the largest crowd of the week. The going was in good condition and excellent time was made in the different dashes. Favorites and strongly supported second choices accounted for the majority of the races. W. G. Forman played an important part in the afternoons sport and accounted for two of the races. Elemental winning the third and Coinine Ci the sixth. FIRST DISQUALIFICATION OF MEETING. The first disqualification of the. meeting occurred this afternoon, in which Moco was first home ahead of Grace Mayers and Miles S. Moco was ridden by Morris and raced ou the outside of the others in the homestretch and crowded the leaders. Grace Mayers, on tin; inside, was the biggest sufferer and she was knocked off her stride. The stewards allowed the claim of foul that was lodged and disqualified Moco, placing the horses as follows: Grace Mayers, Miles S. and Troubier. 13. 11. Bradley will ship eight head from Louisville to Pimlieo, headed by the Maryland Futurity eligible Bit of White. Kay Spence and J. C. Milam Avill also ship to the old hilltop course from Louisville. C. Kochler claimed Comiuc Ci following the running of the fifth race for ,150. Theodosia came out of her race in a bad way and will be on the shelf for the rest of the year. She was hopelessly cut down in her race. W. L. Oliver will ship his stable to Phnlico on Friday morning and rest up awaiting the opening at that point. J. D. Heard will ship from here to Maple Heights, Cleveland, Ohio, for racing at that new track. Commencing tomorrow on orders frpm the Maryland Racing Commission more than one horse trained by the mime man in the same race will be coupled in the mutuel wagering. Eiirnest Utterbaek, a well-known owner and trainer, Was found dead at his stable this morning. Mr. Utterbaek remaiued at his stable last night to work a horse early this morning. Stable attendants on arising, failing to arouse him, investigated and discovered his body. Trainer Henry McDanicl this morning worked Billy Kelly a turn of the track. A report was circulated ou Saturday that the son of Dick Welles had succumbed to hemorrhages. Jockey F. Coltiletti returned from Empire City this morning and resumed riding here. Steeplechase jockey W. Hunt was suspended for the remainder of the meeting for rough riding. At private terms this morning Thomas Clyde purchased from Sam Louis the two-year-old Colando.
