; j j ] j ■ SUCCESSFUL FAIRGROUNDS MEETING * LARGE SUM OF 87,635 DISTRIBUTED DURING FIFTY I DAYS OF RACING— C. W. CLARK LEADS THE OWNERS, UNITED VERDE THE HORSES AND C. LANG THE JOCKEYS i The winter meeting tonducted by the Business Mcus Racing Association at tlie Fair Grounds. New Orleans, from January 1 to and including February 2NV embraced fifty days «,f racing, during which time 350 races were decided and 87,035 distributed iu stakes and purses among the successful horsemen. Tlie daily average distribution amounted to S7.752. quite satisfactory for a winter meeting. Last year tiie Fair Grounds meeting only comprised thirty-three days of racing and ." 0,45S was distributed among tlie horsemen. Aside from considerable inclement weather and bad track conditions prevailing a greater part of the meeting, the sport was of good quality, highly interesting ami well patronized. Ten stake . features were run during the meeting. Bunga Buck winning the most valuable of gafcaj wheu he captured v the Mardi Gru- Handicap en the closing day.
