! ! | STEEPLECHASE LICENSES Stewards of National Association Hold Meeting and Issue 1922 Permits. The executive committee of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association held a meeting last Thursday, April 6, with the following stewards present: Henry J. Morris, J. E. Davis, Henry W. Bull and A. Henry Higginson. The Queens County Jockey Club was granted permission to conduct steeplechases at its spring meeting, June 16 to July 7, and its autumn meeting. September 18 to September 30. J. E. Davis was appointed steward to represent the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association. The Westchester Racing Association was granted permission to conduct steeplechases at its spring meeting. May 23 to June 6, inclusive, and its autumn meeting, September 2 to 16, inclusive. A. Henry Higginson was appointed steward to represent the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association. The Saratoga Association was granted permission to give steeplechases at its meeting, to be held from August 1 to August 31, inclusive. F. S. Yon Stade was appointed steward to represent the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association. Joseph Neff Ewing and Harry W. Frost were elected members of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association. The application for a gentleman riders certificate from Thomas Wright was denied. Certificates as gentleman riders for the year 1022 were granted to : Anderegg, John S. Davis, A. J. irrooke, Geo., III. Leiper, .las. G., Jr. Burton, Crawford Prince, Gordon C. Certificates as gentleman riders were granted, subject to the approval of the Hunts Committee, to Gilbert Slather and Jack Conaway Megargee. Licenses as jockeys were granted to : Barrett, I. MacManners, R. Brady, P. Morris, J. Diamond, O. Murphy, James Franklin, L. Rowan, James Gentry, William Simpson, R. Kennedy, N. W. Stevenson, S. Kleeger, B. Waugh, R. ■fKing, Harry Wolke, E. tTo ride only horses trained by himself. Trainers licenses were granted to : Beamish, James Healy, James Chappelle, Nathan King, Frank Cole, B. L. King, Harry Davey, William Murphy, Jerry Douglas, C. H. Smart, M. Hastings, John Authorized agents were approved as follows : Brooke, George, III., for Miss Ellen Mary Cassatt. Donohue, T. J., for F. Ambrose Clark, Woods Garth II. and Wiiliam Garth. Healy, James, for Joseph L. Murphy and Canterbury Farms. Powers, W. L., for William Garth and Mrs. Leslie E. Keiffer. Squires, B. L., for Samuel Willets. Williams, Lew, for H. P. Gardner. The amendment increasing the number of members of the Hunts Committee from nine to ten was approved and the Hunts of the Middle West will be asked to elect a representative. On motion, duly seconded, the suggested change in the rules applying to steeplechases for hunters was approved. As it will be impossible to amend the rules in time to be effective this spring the secretary was instructed to send a copy of the proposed change to each member of the Hunts Committee for consideration and to proceed with the regular course to have the amendment published and adopted as required by the rules. ♦ *
