H1NATA STAKES AFTERNOON Avisack Defeats the Contending Fillies Easily in the Mud Commander McMeekins Lucky LuckyWin Win Peggy C Beats Bob BobBaker Baker in Stubborn Drive LEXINGTON Ky May 4 Success for H H Hewitts colors in the Hinata Stakes la becoming chronic and the running of the race today found his Avisack a daughter of Jack Atkin Avis capturing the prize of 3750 and the valuable trophy donated by Mrs Clarence LeBus from whosa Hinata Farm the race derives its name Following Avisack but a goodly distance in back cama J N Camdens Fair Agnes with the southern champion Kitty Williams in third place The success of Avisack marked the third victory for Mr Hewitt in the fixture He inaugurated his successes when his Mission Belle garnered the prize in its initial running in 1915 Last year his good filly Startle captured the race from a good band The trio of victors were all homebred fillies from which fact Mr Hewitt derives addi ¬ tional pleasure pleasureAvisack Avisack was best over the heavy track that ruled this afternoon and was unmindful of the hard rain that fell all during the running of the race While her success was achieved finally somewhat easily it would have been accomplished in less strenuous fashion but for Connellys overzealousness and his sub ¬ jecting the filly to unnecessarily hard punish ¬ ment in the early running The sting of the whip took her by surprise and caused her to drop out of the lead and it was only when Connelly desisted that she settled fully into her stride and made rapid headway in over ¬ hauling Fair Agnes This she did in the last sixteenth and drew away decisively near the end Kitty Williams had been In close attendance on Fair Agnes but she was sprawling and tiling badly in the going at the end endTOJST TOJST BEAU TAKES OPE2TER OPE2TERThe The introductory brought to the barrier a half dozen platers most of them campaigners on winter tracks recently They were held to be of even caliber resulting in diversified betting In the running however Tony Beau that had sojourned in Havana triumphed over Nurture in easy fashion Frank F heading the others for third place The mile and a sixteenth was trying on those which were in back of the leading three threeA A dozen ordinary maiden twoyearolds furnished the contest in the second race with Full o Fun proving best and winning easily from Miss Claire The latter got up in the last stride to outstay Power which during the earlier running had given the winner a game argument but dropped back in the last eighth Full o Fun was a slight favorite and it marked the second success scored by H Jones who in the preceding race had piloted Tony Beau BeauMarshall Marshall Brothers Commander McMeekin which in a preceding race was far back raced to his best form in the third dash and got up in last stride to overtake Precious Lula which was making her initial start of the season Precious Lula led to within the last five yards where the Marshall rep ¬ resentative got up to head her Precious Lula will judging by her showing this aft ¬ ernoon reverse the running with the winner for she indicated that she was short The Idle Hour Stock Farms Boy From Home was given attention in the race and he would have been dangerous with intelligent riding Barnes seems to have lost much of his last years riding form formOne One of the best contests of the afternoon came with the running of the fourth race at a mile and a sixteenth when Peggy C in James Ownbeys colors just managed to outstay the favorite Bob Baker after a rousing drive that lasted nearly for the en ¬ tire stretch Peggy C was best and had to be for she was hard to manage by the diminutive W Pool and ran wide on the first two turns entailing a big loss of ground but she headed Greenland in the first half mile and battled it out stubbornly with Bob Baker in the final drive driveRAIX RAIX MARS THE SPOUT SPOUTWhat What started out to be ideal weather con ¬ ditions a wealth of sunshine flooding the track was followed by a hard steady rain that came with the running of the fourth race and it continued until the close of the racing It forced the big crowd to keep under cover and jammed the protected por ¬ tions of the plant plantWith With the exception of the Hinata Stakes the remainder of the card was somewhat or ¬ dinary but the evenly matched ones that started in the different dashes conducted to been confined to his bed ill is reported making steady progress to ¬ ward recovery recoveryThere There was considerable regret over the possible absence of Toshimi owned by Major T C Bradley from the Kentucky Derby following a mild attack of pleurisy which has enforced suspension in his train ¬ ing Have been lacking forward with keen anticipation to the colts start in the Ken ¬ tucky Derby but now I suppose there is little chance of his going to the post for the time will be too brief to have him in thorough condition for a Derby race said Mr Brad ¬ ley in discussing his exploded ambition
