CHICAGO RACING RUMORED Movement on Foot Looking to a Renewal of the Highly Popular Sport A movement fostered by the Illinois Jockey Club of which W O Duntley president of the Duntley Products Company is president for the restoration of Chicago racing is in progress There is no reason why it may not succeed provided the public spirited citizens reported to be interested provide the sinews of war liberally That is the one great es ¬ sential The laws of the State of Illinois which may have a bearing on some aspects of the matter are precisely as they were when racing was successfully conducted here so what was could be again againAmong Among the gentlemen quoted as being heartily in favor of the renewal of racing here are Marshall Field Jr Francis S Pea body E J Lehmann Townsend Netcher Otto Lehmann and others of great wealth and high standing If such influential men take hold in earnest the best of racing here is assured It remains to be seen whether their attitude is merely that of sentimental approval or one practically efficient in cash backing backingThere There is no prospect of an immediate meet ¬ ing Hawthorne and Libertyvllle are sug ¬ gested as tracks to be leased Hawthorne would serve well but Libertyville is too far away and too intimately associated with small things and failures in racing Thou ¬ sands in Chicago are yearning for the hoof beats of the fleetfooted thoroughbred and great will be the reward of tnose who may revive racing1 in this big city
