1 RENO RACING FLOURISHES Meeting May Be Extended to Complete Previously Arranged Twenty-Five Bay Schedule. RENO, Nev., July 12. With the close of 1 the annual Reno race meeting drawing near, with fans of this city and from California ! points registering increased interest and with the thoroughbreds in such fine form that : track records are daily endangered, the sport at this Nevada track will come to an end in a blaze of glory and marked as the most prosperous that Reno has had in its six years of dealing with the thoroughbred. . Already attendance marlcs and records for wagering for previous years have been shattered and the end has not arrived. Undoubtedly the meeting, which is scheduled to be closed next Saturday, but which may be extended for a few days to the following midweek to complete the announced twenty-five days, will be far more successful than any held locally, and this despite the fact that Reno citizens always have been liberal patrons of thoroughbred racing. The speed which the horses have shown, the rejuvenation of many, the marked improvement of a great number, so much in fact that certain of the cheap selling platers now perform like stake horses, the cleanliness of the sport and the development of several riders have been marked features of the meeting. Under the management of J. P. Atkin not a breath of scandal has been heard, and the racing has not only won the approbation of the casual visitor but also that of those who have devoted years to the turf. The closing days of the Reno meeting should be bright ones and even if the sport should end next Saturday and the proposed short extension given up there will be a number of high-class races to enliven the final days. There will be a scries of daily handicaps with substantial purses. The first one will be at one and one-sixteenth miles and it is the plan to stretch out the distances so that the last of the series will see the long-distance horses running one and one-half miles at least. Included in this program will be the rich Reno Handicap, at one and one-sixteenth miles, this being listed for next Saturday. There are twenty-three cligibies and among these are several which have earned brackets at long distances on more than on occasion at the meeting. The Reno Handicap has ,000 added money and the limit field of twelve horses seems assured. Among the more likely starters will be Sample, Reydo, Woodie Montgomery, Lorena Moss, Rifle, Regreso, Missoula, Wedding Prince, Breeze, Croupier, York Lassie and Verdi Loon. While it has not been definitely settled there is much talk of a match race being included before the final day. It had been proposed that Doctor Corbett, Motor Cop and Aryanna meet in a three-cornered affair Coutinued ou twelfth page. EXPLOSIVE, b. f. 4 08 By Transvaal Tickle, by Filigrane. Trainer. J.
