c DISTINCTION ON SICK LIST LEXINGTON, Ky., August 26. Judge William H. Shelley left here last night for Louisville to arrange preliminaries for the opening of the autumn race meeting at Churchill Downs next Wednesday. Colonel Matt J. Winn is to be at the Downs Sunday and is to have a conference with his aids. The Blue Grass fair closed this afternoon with a program of seven races. It was the most largely-attended exhibition in the organizations history. The officials say they have a balanee on the right side of the profit and loss sheets. Aside from the racing there were many features, among them numerous live stock exhibits, one of the greatest being the dairy cattle from E. R. Bradleys Idle Hour Stock Farm. Major T. C. McDowell has sickness in his stable at the Kentucky Association track and, because of this, ho is sending only four horses to Louisville. They go in charge of jockey Jack Howard. Distinction is one of those afflicted with the fever. Arthur B. Hancock, owner of the Ellers-lie and Claiborne Studs and president of the Thoroughbred Horse Association, accompanied by Mrs. Hahcock and their two children, will leave Paris, Ky., Sunday morning for New York, from Avhere they will sail for a two months visit to England and France, it being intended to see some racing in both countries and to visit many of the great breeding establishments on the other side. Phil T. Chinn is expected here from Saratoga Wednesday and, on Thursday or Friday, he will take possession of the farm he recently purchased from Frank Thompson. It is on the Paris pike and is adjacent to the splendid place owned by Harry Payne Whitney. George H. Strate, manager of John H. Rosseters Wikiup Ranch, left here last night for California. He will be back in about sixty days, he said, with a carload of brood mares that are to be left at Kenmore Farm to take the places of the fourteen mares now there, which are to be shipped back to California.
