rm MUD AT DEVONSHIRE PARK Changed Track Conditions Result in Numerous Withdrawals. Principal Race to Stoto. WINDSOR, Ont., August 29. Over a track that had been drenched by an overnight downpour racing was conducted at Devonshire Park this afternoon and mud runners of the pronounced type were much in the limelight. The program was riddled by scratches and as a result, fields numerically small paraded to the post. The best offering of the afternoon was the Detroit Purse, at one mile. A field of seven started in this race arid the winner came from an unexpected quarter, when E. E. Watsons Stoto got home in a drive from J. W. BeanX Rubidium; while W. A. Bucks Lunetta was third, but a short distance- behind the placed horse. The start was a good one and Madeline Lillian was the one to establish - the early pace, while the remainder of the field was closely bunched, with Rubidium and Eulah F. bringing up the rear. There was a general closing up rounding the far turn and when Pickens called upon Stoto he disposed of Madeline Lillian as a pacemaker. Stoto held to his task in a courageous manner and at the end held Rubidium safe. Cool and threatening weather had a depressing effect on the attendance, which was by far the smallest of the meeting. The track was heavy and holding, which brought about the numerous scratches. The downfal of favorites continued, although several of the winners were accorded extensive supporc. John Ferris reported this morning that the mare Doric had been badly cut down in her race yesterday and strenuous efforts would i be made to save her for a brood mare. C. H. Smith will ship from here to Laurel at the conclusion of this meeting. The mare Johns Umma, which was rested up during the summer, has been put in training. Edward Trotter reported that the two yearlings he has at Latonia have been broken and will be shipped to New Orleans to participate in winter racing. Starter Miller has referred the ljorse Cock o the Roost to the stewards and requested that his entry be refused in the future foi his bad post behavior. The two-year-old Loubeck, in the stable of C. J. Long, cooled lame following his race yesterday. .
