WATER TAX ran well, but had to be hard ridden to outstay DIXIE DICK. The latter finished fast on the inside. PINAQUANA showed the most early speed, but quit in the stretch. VERONICA was away badly. PAUL and ran away three-quarters after the race. ST. PAUL closed a gap and, finishing fast, was catching the winner with every stride. BLARNEY BOY began slowly and, being made too much use of on the backstretch, tired. AFFECTATION set a good pace to the far turn, but tired and was knocked about. The latter, shuffled back when going to the first turn, moved up rapidly on the far turn, then came wide when enter-: ing the homestretch and lost ground, but was wearing the winner down at the end. LUNETTA showed a good order of speed in the going and finished gamely after disposing of SERAITOR. The latter quit after racing into a contending position. EULAH F. stumbled shortly after the start.
