AMERICAN ENTRIES ABROAD Yankees Liberal Nominators for Englands Famous Races. Marshall Field, A. K. Macomber, J. E. Wid-ener, W. S. Kilmer and J. E. Maddcns Names Appear on the list. American sportsmen are particularly well represented in the English classics for 1923, which closed in November of 1921. These are the Derby, Oaks, St Leger, Two Thousand Guineas and the One Thousand Guineas. Of these famous old races the Two Thousand Guineas is first on the racing calendar and will bo run May 2. The One Thousand is run May 4. Both of these are at Newmarket. The Derby will be run at Epsom June 4 and the Oaks over the same course June 6. The St. Leger is run at Doncaster September 12. It has ever been the ambition of the American sportsmen to take down English classics and naturally it is the Derby that has been the most coveted goal of them all. The elder Pierre Lorillard scored the first American success in English classics when, in 1SS1, Iroquois was winner of both the Derby and the St Leger. Then in 1901 the late Col. William C. Whitney won the Derby with Volodyovski, a colt that was leased from Lady Meux. That same year Foxhall Kcene won the Oaks with his filly Cap and Bells II. In 1907 Richard Crokers Orby was winner of the Derby, and the following year August Belmonts Norman III. was winner of the Two Thousand. In 1912 August Belmont scored another triumph when his Tracery was winner of the St Leger and there was another American victory the same year when H. B. Duryeas Sweeper II. was winner of the Two Thousand. Then in 1914 II. B. Duryeas Durbar II. was winner of the Derby, making it the second classic victory for that American sportsman, who at the time had transferred his turf activity from this country to France. The American sportsmen who are represented in the classics next year are James W. Corrigan, Marshall Field, Foxhall Keene, Willis Sharpe Kilmer, A. K. Macomber, John E Madden, Joseph E. Widener and Mrs. A. Rudd. Of these nominators A. K. Macomber was the most liberal, he having fifteen eligibles for the Derby, two for the Oaks and two for the St Leger. Marshall Field is well represented with four nominations for both the Derby and the St. Leger, while he has three each in the Oaks, Two Thousand and One : Thousand. Joseph E. Widener only has one eligible for the Derby, but he has four in both the Two Thousand and the One Thousand. John E. Madden and Willis Sharpe Kilmer each have two in the Derby and three in the Oaks. Foxhall Keene has one eligible for the Derby, Two Thousand and the St Leger. James W. Corrigan has named two fillies for the Oaks and he has one eligible for the Derby, One Thousand and the St Leger.
